About now is the end of my first week of piracy. I'm outlawed now, and i have around 400k of skillpoints which aren't in science, industry, learning or corp management.
I've been flying a rifter, and its been great fun. I'm on 24 killmails which didn't go to NPCs, and i'm currently in my 8th rifter (including one which got destroyed by bugged sentries when my flag was out, and i'm petitioning for its return). Highlights have to be taking on 2 cruisers solo and winning, and killing an eagle with 4 other frigates. I've mostly been flying solo (causing WCS problems).
Its been great, and i'd like to thank everyone participating, including the 4 people who threatened to get an alliance after me and the guy who said something un-postable in russian to me. I really enjoyed translating that.
Grats to everyone who killed me: i'll get you yet. I'm glad to say i've not yet lost a fair fight.
My most interesting problem has been people being most unwilling to pay ransoms. Best i've been offered yet is 500k for a retriever. Is there a reason for this?

People think that you wont honour the ransom, or that they think your not doing them a favour.
Thats a hell of a piratting start, congrats man. Keep it up.

people in general don't pay ransoms, even though it's the smarter thing to do.
Nice job though, that eagle pilot should be ashamed

Ego and pride.
Take advantage of it and get right to the point of killing them. Refuse the 500k and sell the strip miners for 1.2-1.5m a module. --------------

oh, and i forgot to mention. the low point was popping an exequror, getting about 500k of loot, and seeing a local hull expander on the destroyed mail

Once you pop, yooou can't stop!
I'm considering digging through my evemail for the 1st 5 pirates who podded me and sending them 5 mil each. I wouldn't still be playing if it weren't for them. Seriously.

Personally, I prefer not to encourage that kind of behaivoir by accepting ransom offers. |

The refuse to pay ransoms, and whine on the forums about pirates not offering them and just killing without mercy... Go figure ---

qft. Kill them and make them spend the time putting together a brand new ship and loadout while you sell back, possibly even to them, the equipment gained. --------------

I'm interested in knowing what setup you're using, or at least a general idea.
I've recently started flying a rifter and I love it, even if it isn't as sexy as a pun. __________________________________________________

For 0.0 BS spawns, not long at all. I went from a -9.8 to a -6.5 in slightly over a week's time, about 4-5 hours hunting NPCs or Complex running a day. Sometimes not even that.
