Roughly how much DPS will the typical 0.0 pirate spawn do? NOT counting the damage reduced from using hardeners etc etc
trying to get an idea, perhaps a range, w/ the typical group of say some battleships / cruisers / frigs, how much damage are we talking per second.
anyone have any clue ?
any help is greatly appriciated thanks

If you know what ships are in a typical spawn, you could plug them into my spreadsheet and see what raw damage they deal. You can even set up your tank there and see if you can tank them.

100DPS before or after resistances? You can get a copy of OpenOffice free, by the way.

to what?
the DPS they do will scale up with the size of your ship

Not unless they use huge missiles, it won't. Orbitting quickly will decrease turret hit chance and staying ot of range will remove all turret damage entirely but turret damage does NOT scale with the size of your ship.

That just affects likeliness to hit for turrets, correct? ________________________________________________

Was trying to see how easily they would tear througha big tanked BS that regens a bit over 100dps , but only has natural resistances.

Assuming you're moving, yes.
To The OP, I highly suggest resistances. Fighting NPCs that deal two damage types, two 50% hardeners will DOUBLE the value of your DPS tanked. That 100DPS regen is pretty crappy when you account for resistances but when you add them in, you can do the same with half the regen and save 50% cap on repairing. You get a good tank by adding a single repairer/booster and a bunch of hardeners. If you have the cap to spare, some people run two repairers, which can be handy if you get into trouble and need to survive long enough to warp out or if you're using a capacitor booster just in case you get into trouble.
What ship is it? I can throw you a decent tank setup right now. BS are more than capable of taking on 0.0 spawns solo quite easilly but you won't do it by wasting all your capacitor beefing up your repair rate and ignoring resistances.

yet you cannot tell me a rough estimate of a DPS range of the weakest / strongest 00 rat spawns
i was looking for a figure like your typical spawns do between 200-500 dps negating resistances or something along those lines.
so then i can manually figure how i want to reset my resist and if i have bring it up to 50% i can then just divide the number.
i am trying to figure out just how low of a resist / regen i can go and take pirate spawns down.

I gave you the tool to figure it out yourself, you're just too lazy to get excel or open office to use it. I'll save you some effort. A typical 0.0 spawn with either battlecruisers and cruisers or 2 BS and some cruisers will do about 200-250 raw DPS. At least that's what the blood raiders around here deal. If you wanted to know this, you know my spreadsheet can work it all out...
If you're pasive tanking, which I suspect you are, you'll probably find sticking a hardener or two in there instead of all shield rechargers and extenders.

I know a 12k shielded ferox with about 520sec regen and 2 hardeners can tank missions that do more DPS than the majority of 0.0 spawns you'll find, if that helps.
You can't really ask for a 'typical' spawn though, because there's not really a standard. I know from what I've seen of 0.0 belt spawns, the most common things I'd see are triple BC spawns, or a BS or 2 and maybe a cruiser or frig, and all ships do varied damage. TBH, I just think along the lines of "if this setup can tank a lvl 4 mission without any problems, it'll tank pretty much any 0.0 spawn". Ofcourse I've never ran into an officer spawn, and I imagine those can be painful, especally if the officer warps away.

You can also get an excel viewer although not sure what the limitations are

If you shoot them from 100km, they dont do any damage at all. Ignore tanking for belt npcs and go for damage and range if you can - its much faster. That smy latest philosophy if your gona use a biggish ship.

I do this with my ishtar, it works really well.

What he said sounds about right. I can solo pwn a 1 to 2 BS and frig spawn in an Ishkur, with great passive armor resists on the Ishkur of course. It's nothing horrible. With a passive shield tanked Raven you can virtually AFK chain (j/k, though it is really quite manageable). :) |

That's because NPC's aren't as one-dimensional as before anymore.
It wholly depends on the NPC. Some do good damage only at medium range, others wont even hit you unless they get within 30km. Some use nosferatus on you, some disrupt your tracking, some don't.
Some you can use a tracking disruptor on and reduce damage taken greatly, others shrug it off and hit you just as hard.
Dps says very little. It's the combination of the npc BS type you are most likely to see alot (which depends on where you hunt for it), the rest of your planned setup, and the likelyhood of encountering much harder then average spawns.
If you fit to be able to use a short range full tanking tactic against them all, you will costing yourself time and thus isk. If you fit so that you can tank what you need in order to kill, and fit to kill what you need in order to stay safe, then you are at your most effective.

Right. Some NPC BS are fitted for long range and some for short, for example. With NPCs, if you let them get to their own range, though, 0.0 won't thro any more than about 200DPS at you. Honestly, a passive tank with 100dps regenerated and 50% resistances would be more than enough. You can even get away with base T1 BS resists if you can dictate range and with belt rats you can use an MWD so you SHOULD be able to dictate range.
I must say, my favourite option so far has got to be outranging your opponent. While I'm ushing an ishtar for this 0.0 ratting, I could just as easilly use a vexor for these double-BS spawns. It's kinda scary.

Of course, you could just try it and in a couple of minutes figure it out, or you could post on the forum and get no real answer.
You can always warp out if you find you are not up for the task, quit over analzying (and before anyone talks about scrams we all know the odds of that).
