Edited by: Raven Aure on 27/04/2006 23:15:16 I've been away from Sunday on an IP Telephony training course in sunny Hemel Hempstead (round the corner from that wonderful oil depot that decided to blow the last version of this training course up). Needless to say I'm back now, but I had a moment while away:
I'm standing in Wetherspoon's (a no-fuss decent pub-chain in the UK - where I spent most of the time that I wasn't training ) and I look over at the taps; "Spitfire".
I thought of Jenny Spitfire first and the drink that comes out of said tap second.
*so glad to be back with EVE access*
Oh and shameless plug - if anyone needs a 3Com IP Telephony Specialist or a 3Com Enterprise LAN Specialist in the UK or Europe, please do give me a shout ______________________

Weatherspoons - never bad but never great.
The art of cellar keeping is a dieing art. It's a national disaster really, my children may never know the joy of a fine pint of hand drawn real ale.

I know Hemel well, used to live there until '98.
Though the Full House is mostly full of chavs. And my little brother. I didnt know they had bud on tap though (or I did, and I keep getting too drunk to remember?)

Edited by: Rift Scorn on 28/04/2006 13:53:48 Ok, here's a random EVE thought.
So, i'm not in Wetherspoons, but i have a similar random thought.
I'm doing a Psychology degree, in the middle of my finals at the moment and one of the Modules i'm taking is Cognitive Psych; without going into details there's a process in there called a 'Central Executive', which in the body text is shortened to CE.
First time i see CE revising, whats the first thing that comes to Mind? 'Bloody Cataclysm Enterprises [CE]! They've got my BS more than any other corp!'
RIFT! STEP AWAY FROM THE KEYBOARD
edit: Shockingly i live a whole 3 miles away from Hemel Hempstead, weird coincidence. Yateley is a frakkin' dump though

If by nice food you mean: Microwaved atrocities served on giant plates and by bud on tap your referring to: diluted cats wee.
Then yes... your talking about the pub chain im familiar with :)
Personally prefer mitchell and butler pubs, still poor in the food stakes but better than weatherspoons, but they serve decent hand pumped ale and dont look at you with a stupid face when you say to em "er... this beers off" they can appreciate that you have to start preparing a cask of real ale on the sunday night, and by thursday its ready for serving... Saturday and its starting to turn so you sell it for ú1 a pint to the drunken revellers... Sunday you chuck it and start over again.
Wetherspoons beer is cheap because they buy it from local brewery's where possible, and its the stuff thats close to being out of date, doesnt tend to matter as every wetherspoon I've been in tends to pack out at night and the beers are drunk sharpish, but if you go there midday and you havent drunk anything previous... you'll notice the nasty tang of the vinegar coming into play. ----- If you kill all the wolves, your gonna end up with a crapload of bunnies, and by bunnies I mean stupid people Eve & Linux Woot! |

Erm... You can in my local one between the hours of 9 and 6pm, but to be honest Smoking should be banned in all public places, but thats another discussion topic entirely :) ----- If you kill all the wolves, your gonna end up with a crapload of bunnies, and by bunnies I mean stupid people Eve & Linux Woot! |

Some are pretty soulless I'll agree. The one in Bath and the Tower Gateway one are pretty decent IMO. It varies from place to place as you'd expect with any chain.
I like the fact that I can sit down and have a drink and hear the person/people that I'm with. It's very much a "people make the place" kinda pub.
I tend to visit them when on work (like last week) and all you really want is a reasonably priced meal (had a really good pasta last week) and to relax. The other place I've always found to be half-decent for that is Hogshead. There's a great one round the corner from Fenchurch St station in London that's under the railway track (brick arch ceiling) - very nice. ______________________

Two I know in Bristol, The Magic Box (or the Yardie HQ) and the Berkeley (incredibly sticky carpets). Both very cheap though
