Edited by: mmm cheese on 10/03/2007 14:34:23 Imo opinion use the command ships ... have a module, call it say "Control Tower Uplink" the command ship sits in the POS and an target enemy ships through the POS. Make fleet command ships a bit more useful
You wouldn't directly control the guns or modules on the POS, just specify where you wanted the guns to fire. maybe havbe different versions of the uplink module, one for controlling guns, others for controlling stasis/scrams and one for ew.
you target say a dread, the pos fires the guns still but at your target. If no one is there, the POS simply operates as normal.

HereÆs my thoughts:
How about some POS gang system, where having multiple POSÆes in the system is more useful than just numbers. Some variety would be helpful, and perhaps more realistic.
One idea would be a massive-ranged POS artillery system, where one POS can help defend another. Perhaps in conjunction with the other ideas in this thread about the ability to target specific attackers, a defender could call in fire from other POSÆes in the system.
A flip of that, and maybe most useful in conjunction would be a similar defensive remote shield boost POS mod. A person sitting in an unattacked POS could shunt itÆs shields to one under attack.
That way, there would be some specialization between POSÆs focusing on attack and defense. Once all of one type is gone, the other type is doomed, but at least its more interesting.

I like the idea of concentrated fire, and being able to control the guns by players with the appropriate skills, it only makes sense. What I am envisioning is something a little different though.
Drones!!
Why not allow the POS to have a fighter drone bay, much like a carrier. This would not only make the POS a much tougher threat, but it would also make attacking anything in the system, much harder because if there are multiple POS's in the system, just imagine all the drones you could send against an enemy fleet. Now that being said you would have to put a player in the POS, that is just like a ship. The player would have to have the appropriate drone skills and there should be some type of POS drone skill like, starbase drone control or something like that.
You could also assign the drones to pilots flying in the system. This would make attacking anyone in the system harder as well. You could protect your mining fleets, ratting ships, etc.
I mean really a station is a very large structure, drones would be a cool addition to POS and system defenses using existing skills and possibly some new ones.

Maybe make controlling the POS guns tied to soverignity ? That would give the defenders the advantage without giving an attacker trying to take the system the same edge...
So side with soverignity can get a starbase tactical officer to control the POS's guns... ??
