Edited by: Dreadnor on 28/04/2006 15:29:33 Ok, so someone told me I should do rockets instead of light missles. I thought it was awsome because they shot almost 4 times faster (but 3x less dmg), but I couldn't hit CRAP with these things, Even close range they seemed to MISS religiously! Talked to a friend and he said to switch to missiles, I'm training it now, but is this TRUE? Rockets are like unguided free shot rockets, and missiles are more accurate (even though the shoot slower).
Also, is there ANY type of equipment that will INCREASE your accuracy? Targeting computer, etc...

Edited by: Myiesha on 28/04/2006 15:32:04 This is wrong. Missiles dont have an accuracy.
Missiles always hit unless the targets flight distance is greater then the missiles range (Out of Range, or outrunning the missile), you warp away, or the missile gets shot down. Rockets are just as guided as any other missile.
Note that Rockets have very short range, odds are you were out of range. Do the math on your missiles and figure out what the range is. (Show Info, missile velocity * flight time).

This is sortof true. Often a missile can hit for 0 damage depending on the target's speed and size.
I suggest you read the Missile Guide to understand how missiles can and can not hit their targets, and how damage is calculated.

Edited by: Dreadnor on 28/04/2006 15:52:59 Well damn, then it 'sounds' like rockets would be BETTER if in range? Since if you shot a LONG range missile at a moving target it's probably going to miss (or does that have nothing to do with it?)
It's just RANGE and whether or not it can HIT the target? I am liking that missiles take LESS ammo though, hehe...hated going through like 500 rockets in a mission.
After first glance at the missile guide, it says rockets are like 4.5Km! I was at 7Km with my rail guns, that would explain ALOT! I figured 7Km was SHORT enough, but guess not..(still reading)

Edited by: Myiesha on 28/04/2006 15:59:52 If your in range, the missiles going to hit barring something special. Be it at 1m or max range doesnt make much of a difference. Most missiles are fast enough that its no longer practical for a ship to try to out run/outmanuver the missile, even with a MWD. Though high speed can reduce the damage taken.
Rockets are a VERY high DPS weapons and will do a lot of damage against most targets. They stay effective until your engaging much higher level ships. In addition they will hit most of their damage against even small frigates, unlike standard and heavy missiles which will do greatly reduced damage against very small targets.

Ok, after reading the missile guide (my god they're complicated!) I'm sticking with Light Missiles since they are my OPENER (about 18Km range for them). I'm probably going with THERMAL light missiles since they do MORE shield dmg and some armor dmg as well. Thanks everyone!
It also looks like I need to revisit this later once I start doing equipment and and more SKILLS....

Ignore the base Shield and Base Armor damage stat. Meaningless.
Look up the NPC you will be fighting and use the correct missile type against them. Perhaps one of the greatest strength to missiles is being able to adjust your damage type to match your enemies weakness.

Also, pay attention to the bonuses of the ship you are using.
Kestrel and Caracal, for instance, get bonuses to Kinetic missiles. Using non-kinetic missiles is therefore counter-intuitive as their bonus will, at the very least, cancel out the resistances of most NPCs.
Obviously fighting PCs is wholely different.
