When I study the maps of EVE territory distribution on GalNet I'm always struck by the complete lack of activity in the East. I see some alliances claiming soverignty but only in disparate systems, spread far and thin.
Who controls the East? Is it a developed region that the maps don't show or a wilderness? Is it a pirate infested outland - what is going on there that means that apparently no one claims sovereignty or control of it?

The regions to the south east of the Jove empire are not accessable at the moment. I think there is some story about black holes making jumpgates to that area too dangerous or something like that. I think it'll open in Kali though. Its gonna be one hell of a territory grab when that opens up.

Well, guess it's pretty fair to say it'll open when needed. And can anyone seriously say atm it's needed? No ;)
I hope they'll keep it shut down until it can actually be used for something exclusive. Something to really fight over. Not just another region.

im pretty sure he is talking about the old RA territories, now full of chimp, kos, lv, -v-, ra, and others. if you look at soverignty on the map, it isn't very colorful compared the south (ascn, fix, huzzah, bob, iss, etc) or north (d2, void, iss, geminate groups, others)
To answer the question, for something like a year the entire region has been beset by constant war, and putting up industrial poses is a risky deal when someone will just bring a few dreads by as soon as you gain soveriegnty.
