I only have about 8 or 9 days in.... 300k SP. Upgraded to paid acct. So I dont have a lot invested in my skills yet.
I was browsing the ships database... and Honestly I find the AMARR ships to be appealing to me. In many ways they seem better than the Gallente ships I am using.
Shipwise... I can use Frigate 3, Industrial 1, Destroyer 1, and Cruiser 2 for Gallente. But I think I want to switch to Amarr... is this advisable... or should I just stick with the Gallente line of ships ?

Fly what you enjoy flying or you're wasting your money :) No, there's absolutely no reason not to branch out at the stage you're at. |

Yeah what the above poster said, my second account is amarr and I enjoy it and I also fing gallente ships appealing so I am going to be cross training very soon. Also having more than one races ships at your disposal is a good thing :)

i play eve for 1 year and 4 months now and always trained and flew gallente..atm i have some decent skills with that race and they rawk. another point is if u train for one race effectively u train the non-racial support skills up which makes the change to another race very easy. ill either train for caldari or minmatar after i finished my schedule for gallente ships. all i can say is that there ppl who train completely cross-over and ones who specialize in races, the most important thing here are the support skills for capacitor, powergrid, cpu, armor and shield systems, propulsion and gunnery support skills. the rest is a simple subjective preference thingy

I went through the same thing.
My advice would be: train both! Why not? Gallente really do have some awsome ships. I wanted to go Amarr, but I knew I would miss a few of the Gallente ships that I really want. So my solution? Train both.
Training both really isn't that bad of an idea. Think about it. There are a LOT of shared skills. Give it a shot! A lot of people will advise specializing - and they are right about it, assuming you only care about getting into PVP as fast as possible. However, if you are wanting to just enjoy the ride and try lots of stuff out, there is no reason not to branch out.
I knew PVP is coming, so in the short term I'm training heavily on Gallente. Amarr won't be too long in the future though.
Good luck mate!
Gotcha! I bet that got ya all hot under the collar, didn't it? |

Ignore the obsession that most people have to specialize only on one race/weapon system, I'm "specialized" to use both Amarr and Gallente ships, T2 Pulses, Beams, Blasters and Railguns. Who cares if you have that extra 2% damage from L5 Med Blaster Spec, it's more fun to branch out and do whatever you want to do!

I have a similar issue, Love the amarr tank, love the galliente drones.
Presently I flew a Prophecy (now presently scrap metal). I am switching solely to Galliente ships though (mainly cause I do want to specialize in Galliente for a while). But I know that if I want to switch to Amarr ships, its about 13 days of training to fly Amarr AF's and Battleships. I can transfer 80% of my galliente training over also.
I'd probably train up to use Galliente/Amarr BCs, and AF's. And really try to decide on which BS you'd like.
Just my opinion, but cross training is fine (but confusing).

Alrighty then. I've decided I'm going to abandon Gallente Ships for now and start training Amarr ships up. I can always go back to Gallente later.

This is one of the things that makes EvE so much own other MMO's... You can do everything with you're character.
