Today I received a message from former Crusader Varathius, once a pilot flying for the Absinthe Brothers. This message I received after he destroyed my ship in single combat.
Quote:I have shed blood for the amarr empire,
I pumped 8 mio LPs into systems, and at the end for what? To be let down by the pilots that leech and don't do a damn to capture systems. So, when I lay in bed with the --redacted--, I told her, that I cannot fight with a group that does not know how to fight to the end, and then I did her one last time, then I left Amarr.
His sentiment is true in the sense that most pilots nowadays fighting over the systems contested by the Empire and the Republic seem to be concerned with a practice that they themselves call 'farming'. Today, barely a Matari warrior can be seen in the skies over the warzone. The gates flash constantly with flights of Hounds brandishing the Imperial Crusade symbol carrying their payloads off to the next mission.
While the stealthy hounds toil on the field of stars to their harvest their loyalty rewards, the space in between these fields has become a nesting ground for pirates and other scum. Many of our warriors have consigned themselves to the practice of simply attacking anyone in the warzone that is not explicitly identified as friendly. A practice I oppose strongly.
Especially now, when the Amarr forces loom dominant over the warzone, corruption, betrayal and greed run rampant. The smell of victory seems to have brought out the worst in many. I do understand that it is hard to serve when the men around you seem of the lesser sort and the drawn-out-war whittles down even the resolve and principles of the strongest amongst us. However, I want to remind you, as I reminded former Crusader Varathius of the following:
Only through many hardships Is a man stripped to his very foundations And in such a state Devoid of distractions Is his soul free to soar And in this He is closest to God - The Scriptures, Book of Missions Verses 42:5
It is easy to fight when your allies are righteous. It is easy to serve someone when all your needs are met. It is hard when your allies stink, it is hard to stand by your principles when aren't getting what you are owed.
However, serving at those times and staying true to your principles is the true mark of a man.
You can choose to be a lesser man if you want. But aspire to be a greater one.

It's the wartime profiteers that we abhor most.
I completely understand Merdaneth in his preaching. And I'm really sorry that I'm not there anymore to hang around the freshly discovered combat sites over Matari soil to kill off poorly fitted stealth bombers. Which I once did for a sport as the travel between Amarr space and Minmatar backwater systems had stopped at the Eszur gate for our daily camps. FREEDOM, PUNK & AUTOCANNONS |
