Finally i have to turn to the bigger community, for to see if my suspicions are true.
Lately when i ever i start EVE, my monitor shuts down. It goes black and i have to reset for to get it back. I have done all i can think of, i updated my drivers for my ATI Radeon 9800. But to no avail, the monitor still shuts down. Unfortunaly i can't update my windows, due to lack of space on my C partition. And the fact that it's not exactly legal , so any thoughts?. Is a new card the only way now?, or a total make over of the whole system?..

Have you tried completely reinstalling eve?
It could be that it's starting in a resolution that your screen doesn't support.
Or does it happen before you login? ______________________

You really ought to clear down your c: drive. Where is your page file?

I have reinstalled EVE, and i can log in. Either the monitor shuts down at the character choice, or i can get into the game and then it shuts down.

Do you have more than 1 partition? And if you do, do the other partitions have more space than the c: partition? If so, you can move it (needs a reboot).
Go to Control Panel, System, Advanced tab. Select Performance options, then Advanced tab in that. I'd create a new page file on anothe r partition, about 1 - 2 times the size of your RAM. OK the changes and reboot (if it hasn;t asked you to already)
This should free some space on your C: drive and maybe fix some of your problems.

Blank, the light that indicates weather or not the monitor is on blinks, instead of the solid light that indicates the monitor being on.

I've noticed that on some cards with dual output, games and even Windows can get confused as to which "display" they should output onto (even when only one is connected).
Have you been able to switch into window mode? ______________________

Any chance to open the case and look inside? Check the electrolytic capacitors on your video card and motherboard areas for leaking capacitors. They are bulged if they leak and they also smell bad. The rebooting to turn on the card/monitor can be related to not enough power to start/maintain the system. Reboot to start it means you need a large charge to turn it on. Just my guess, but can be wrong unless you can check them out. ---------------- MAY 1st - We love Khatred day. RecruitMe@NOINT! |

If you press Esc and go to the Graphics tab, how many display adapters are listed and what are their names? ______________________

Ok, so it's not my dual output theory.
Do you get this problem with any other games? ______________________

What happens if you press the 'Windows' key when this happens? Does the screen start working again or remain inactive?

Yep motherboard is well, all was checked when it was cleand. Ports working, otherwise i would be in big trouble.
And Raven, it's only EVE. When this all started, i could'nt even look at some webpages. Then it stopped with EVE..

Well, how old is the monitor? The monitor itself could just be screwing up.
It sounds, to me, like you're just trying to start Eve at a resolution the monitor can't handle. I would say upgrade the monitor if it's old. Unfortunately, if the monitor isn't the problem, it's the graphics card. --- --- --- ---

The monitor is over a year old, and today i got an strange error message saying that the card could'nt find drivers for the monitor. Yet the monitor works elsewhere besides in EVE, and did work fine in EVE until about a week ago..

Drivers for a monitor? It sounds like its a graphics card problem.
You don't need drivers for the monitor to work. You just plug the monitor in, and it works. If the drivers are failing, its probably the graphics card.
A monitor over a year old isn't really that old... unless its really, really, really over a year old. Try updating your graphics card drivers. If you can't. Uninstall the drivers you have now, and then do a fresh install on the drivers. If that doesn't work then uninstall again, and reinstall an earlier version of your graphics card driver (ie: "back-dating your driver" as some might call it). --- --- --- ---

If it is just black, and the power light is green or whatever colour it goes when on, and it is also a LCD/TFT the backlight could of gone, had this trouble with mine a few weeks back, would turn on for a few secs and then just go "dead". -------------------------------------------

Has this been solved? My friend is having the same problem now and can't play. He is just trying to start up, and it's sort of discouraging him from the game.
I've looked at the prefs.ini and made sure the starting resolution is well within the monitor's range. We've swapped monitors. We've cleared the intsall and reinstalled it. It gets the splash screen then looks like its about to hang, and suddenly the monitor gives a frequency error.
There is only on output on the video card (the model name escapes me atm). His page file is fine, his drivers are fine. The computer works for everything except Eve. Any ideas? It just goes to show you that you shouldn't kneel down in front of the third rail, grab it with both hands, and **** on it from three feet away. |

Something similar has been happening to me, ever since the new patch.
Often it seems to go wrong when accessing a menu, or info on an item/ship/character.
The result is it either totally freezes my computer, requiring a hard reboot using the front reset button, or my computer simply reboots itself - one or the other :(
I hope it gets fixed soon, this never happened before this current patch
