Anyone know a good flight sim? prefferabley something like descent freespace. i dont really like modern ones, i would either prefer outerspace, or a close second WWII. -------------------------------------------------

IL2 Forgotten Battles. Difficulty is entirely customisable so you can have full realism or just easy fights and it's graphically impressive aswell, based in WW2. -------------------------------------

yeah the freespace games were awsome, wrapped both of the. i liked ares rising about 6 years ago, it was a lot like eve, you had slots and space to fit gear on your ship, and could mix and match. it was a lot like eve but in a fligh sim. -------------------------------------------------

Descent freespace isn't a flight sim. This is a space flight sim. This a civilian flight sim This a F-16 flight simulator. And of course theres IL2 Sturmovik as already mentioned. These programs are all trying to be very accurate, and as a result can drive you crazy as a newb. Theres a reason F-16 pilots train for years, and theres a reason space flights require exact planning in advance.
In the more "shooter" type genre, I actually haven't played any space shooters since X-wing alliance, Freespace 2, Tachyon: The Fringe and Independence War. All very cool games, and worth bargain bin prices if you can find them. --- Our greatest glory is not in never failing, but in rising up every time we fail. - Emerson |

Why does no one ever mention Independance War 1 or 2: edge of Chaos 1 is really rather old now but 2 is still nice, and its a different take on what eve could of been, ie/ piracy and the like with the ability to build your own items also trade for em, but all in first person with the joystick and decent physics. Oh and it has a good way of stopping ships from running LDSI missiles. But yeah, i need to try that game again.

Starlancer was neat...Microsoft late 1999 i think... also give the X series a try well worth it you can get x2 from D2drive or if you are a member of fileplanet you can get it from hit points....or if you subscribe you get it for free....best subscription I ever did....9.95 usd per month and the download speeds are rediculusly fast, plus every month you get so many hit points you can turn in for free games with direct to drive

I agree with this
You cant call a space game a flight sim as you aren't actually flying,

Edited by: Valeo Galaem on 01/05/2006 09:30:56 Considering that FreeSpace 2 is considered AbandonWare, that the game's EULA actually gives you the right to give a copy to a friend, and that the wonderful work done by the people at the HLP and Source Code Project just can't be ignored, here is a link to a user-friendly distro for the latest developments in the project (including an installer and the best of the best in campaign mods).
edit: would help to actually provide a link FreeSpace 2 SCP Pack 1.5c
Unfortunately, it looks like the torrent isn't being seeded enough at the moment Downloading it myself as the updates are a lot to keep track of. _____________________________________________________________________ Thar be Pirates
