... when taking skill training time into considering?
Hi,
This may be a newbish question to some, but anyway. I started this game about a month ago and decided to focus on mining/hauling. As for the "hauling" part I created a Gallente character because I had been informed that Gallente have the best haulers out there.
True enough an Iteron V decked out with 5 cargo expanders (named if possible) will hold more ore than any other industrial. However getting the industrial skill to level 5 DOES take a while.
I later realized that the Amarr has a hauler the Bestower, which with relatively little training (Amarr frigate III/ Amarr industiral I) will hold a fair amount with it's 4 low slots filled with cargo expanders.
Is there any point in continuing with Gallente industrial or is Amarr the way to go or is there any advantage with Gallente (or another race) further up the road? What is the prefered hauler?

Just depends on your view of the overall situation.
You take the Mk5 then you are gonna need the max industrial skill. That means that the ship bonus will also be maxed resulting in a max skilled ship (and if you take Transports) you will haved a maxed out transport ship as well.
If you make do with the Bestower then you don't have to max its just under a days training (iteron 5 is at least pumping it towards two months with no learning skills)
The real question is.
"Do I want to be able to haul a single jettisoned can in one run or do it more than one run?"
If the answer is One run. Go for the iteron.
If the answer is more than one. Go for the bestower. --------------

Edited by: ProfOldi on 30/04/2006 13:30:00 yeah but if you want to go for transport ships or freighter you need these skills anyway
if you just need a simple hauler and dont want to use freighters or transport ships the bestower might be the best choice

Depends on how long time you consider "too long" is.
A few hours: Get Amarr industrial. You only need it to level 1 to beat most non-tier 4 industrials
A day: Get Minmatar industrial 4. Mammoth is a very neat industrial, and easily the best non-level 5. Also has an added pro in that it was originally intended to be a Minmatar battleship model.
A week: Get Gallente Industrial 5. The Iteron Mk V is the only iteron worth getting, to be honest, and it's really good to boot.
Longer: Get Amarr industrial to level 5, Industry skill to level 5, and then get yourself an Impel. You need good expanders (Beta Hull or better), though. New sig coming soonÖ Drone musing (MC-boards) |

Heres a little trick u may want to consider, fill your hauler with as many giant/huge containers as u can then fill each container with whaterver your hauling ....ie a gaint container has a capacity of 3900.0 but only has a volume of 3000.0m3 so u gain an extra 900.0 for every gaint container u can carry

Minmatar Industrial 4 takes a good 181,000 SP which takes quite a bit longer than a day. Still, worth it IMO.

Ithilden was doing a minor exageration, of course it'll take about 3 days or so, and gall indy 5 will of course take near a month to new players... but he's just getting his point across...
Easiest bang for your buck is the simple hour or 3 you could invest in Amarr indy 1... Bestower is one hell of a hauler for new players...

Well, it looks like I'll stick to Gallente industrial on my hauler and maybe train up Minmater industrial on my miner at some time seeing how it's the hauler with the 2nd largest cargo hold and the best speed.
On a side note, looking further ahead what is the typical price/availability of a Minmatar Fenrir freighter compared to a Gallente Obelisk freighter.
While the Obelisk has the cargo hold size on it's side the Fenris seems way better off in terms of speed which I understand can be an important issue when hauling.
Anyway, thanks for all the input

I wouldn't say that a Freighter is used for hauling... it's more used to "Move" ...you can't pick stuff up in space last I checked...
But I'd say it doesn't really matter... sure enough the Obelisk has a bit more space, but the Fenrir is a bit faster... The price difference is so small that I think it's up to personal preference on looks
