Looked at a couple of posts here for a Ferox with missiles - anyone use a Ferox with rails?... what would be a good setup for such a config -0 say 5x200mm rails and 2 launchers in highslots - would would be good in med and low?

Here is a set up for running lvl 3s
5 250s 2 heavies
1 Medium T2 shield booster 1 Medium AB 2 Faction specific hardeners 1 Large shield extender(trust me the extender helps on missions even though you active tank.)
0-2 tracking enhancers 2-4 PDS
5 small drones
Use as much T2 gear as you are able but the T2 shield booster is really important.
This set up does all lvl 3s extremely fast with no warp outs.
Wherever you went - here you are.

Edited by: Kery Nysell on 30/04/2006 22:43:12 I use a Rail-Ferox, and I'm not the only one ...
A Missile-Ferox needs far less skills and can mount a tremendous passive shield tank, and that's why it's more popular, but anyway, here's my setup :
HIGHs : 5x 250mm Railguns + 2x Arbalest Assault Launchers (no skills for T2 yet ...).
MEDS : 10 MN AB 2, Medium Shield Booster 2, Shield Boost Amplifier, 2x Invulnerability Field 2.
LOWs : 4x Power Diags 2.
Dronebay : 5 Light Drones.
With Battlecruisers 3 and the 2 Invulns running, I get between 60 and 80 in the shield's resistances, I use the Launchers and the Drones for anything that manage to get too close for the tracking of my 250's (not much ...), and I can do every lvl 3 mission while half-asleep ...
But I have good tanking and fitting skills, those can make a huge difference.
I've not done any PvP it, but I read somewhere in this board that a Rail-Ferox could take on some big 'rats in the lowsec/0.0 belts, and defend itself in PvP too ...

Ferox Rail setup:
5x 250mm II 2x "Arbalest" Heavy Missile Launcher
1x 10mn AB (named, PG issues) 2x Invul Field II 1x Large Shield Extender II 1x Target Painter II
3x Power Diagnostic system II 1x Magnetic Field Stabilizer II
it should give you about 37 hp/sec with max skills and implants - 1x medium shield booster II = 30hp/sec, which is enough to deal with lvl 3 missions.
Railgun DPS: 164.5 Drone DPS: 84 Launcher DPS: 44 Total DPS: 292.5
it should rip any lvl 3 mission if you just know how to handle the spawn, though I havent tried it

My railox set-up is similar to that one but with a few changes HIGH - 5x 250mm named railgun 2x Arbalest Assault launchers
MED - Med Shield Booster t2 Shield Boost Amp Invulnerability Field 2 Large Regolith F-S9 SHield Induction Eutectic Cap Recharger
LOW - 2x Power Diagnostic 2 2x Magnetic Field Stabilizer 2
Accompanied with vespas/hammerheads that set-up can deal with most if not all lvl3 missions. If you find that the cap drains too fast for your liking, u can swap out the mag stab 2s for more pdu's.

I find lvl3s fairly straight forward in my rail Ferox. similar set up to most of the above
5 x 250mm II 2 x Heavies
10mn AB II Large Shield booster II 2 (or 3 depending on mission) hardeners Webber/Painter/Cap recharger (mission dependant)
can't remember lows, but think it mainly PDU and RCU
5 x drones
This tanks NPCs well and still deals enough damage.

make it tank a Raven firing EM precision cruise and you can writte home about it
(harsh comment but you are a big bad pirate with sekrit set ups so you should be able to handle it)

It's good to see rail setups on Ferox's for a change.

For pvp, 250's suck unless your sniping. I don't fly one but if i did i would fit the standard setup for sniping. That would take that range bonus and use it too.
H: 5 250's M: 2/3 sensor boosters, 2/3 tracking comps L: 3 mag stabs, 1 pdu or a tracking enhancer (depending on if you need it for **** to fit)
then fit the remaining to highs w/ whatever you want

It's a nice ship imo, the optimal range of 250s with antimatter ammo is very good also.
Be warned though, you need very good medium hybrid skills to take out the 600k+ BS's And you definetly want tech II rails. ................. |

What am I doing wrong with my railox setup? I can't seem to get a good DPS, period! 161 DPS with assumed darn near max rail skills, and antimatter. I don't know if it was counting the missiles, but meh. Oh well, at least it tanks like a SOB.
5x 200mm rail II 2x Assault launcher II
1x Med Shield Boost II 1x Shield Boost Amplifier 2x Invulnerability Field II 1x Stasis Webifier (maybe replace with Warp Disruptor)
3x Magnetic Field Stabilizer II 1x Damage Control II
What am I doing wrong?

Try 250mmIIs and a tracking computer, however don't forget that the ferrox does not get a damage bonus, it gets a tanking and optimal range bonus. Also, the ferrox lends itself far better to passive tanking than active.

Valid points. I did the math though, and found that the 250mms gave a +5% DPS bonus for +25% fitting. Going down to 200mms sacrificed a decent amount of range, but very little actual damage, and allowed me to fit either the Damage Control or another damage mod.
The passive tank, I do think about. Heck, I could not change a thing, except swap out my shield booster and the boost amplifier for two large shield boosters. That's over 4k more shields (more than 100 seconds of boosting!) for no loss of anything, and a gain of capacitor.
But I'm not doing anything wrong in the damage area? I think that's a relief.

Ferox makes a superb long-range platform. 5x250mm's, some tracking enhancers, signal boosters, and magnetic stabilisers; can easily chuck hybrid ammo near 100km.
Useful in fleet ops, sit up with the battleships, use the spare highs for remote armour reppers/gang mods.

I haven't tried mine yet, waiting for Drones 5 to get done. But here's what I plan to use for missions.
5 250mm II 2 Assault Limos
2 Large Shield Extenders II 2 Active Hardeners II 1 Med Shield Booster II
3 PDU II 1 Mag Stab II

Agreed. With Tech 2 Guns and Spike Ammo you can get out to 150km easily.
