I am considering writing an academic article on economics and EvE. Therefore I would like to know if CCP keeps a record of aggregate economic statistics in EvE, like the amount of isk flowing in and out of the economy, the level of value added per day/month/year ect.
This is a question directed mostly at the developers, but if anyone collects data privately (any economic data on eve) that source would also be appreciated. Also if anyone is aware that this has been done before, please inform me as useful litterature would be greatly appreciated.

there was a article in a newspaper a while back about a economic study being done by the local university reguarding EVE. Perhaps try emailing kieron?

Edited by: Shakuul on 01/05/2006 07:04:00 I would recommend talking to the devs directly. You probably aren't going to get a response on the forums. They probably don't even read the forums.
EDIT: However, if you do get data, I'm sure a lot of people would be interested in your findings.

there is a slow inflationary pressure but in ISK its minimal the real inflation is in items in peoples hangers going up (they are the hidden economy) ammo extra ships extra modules NPC trade goods (POS are a ISK sink) where a lot of waste goes into alliacne wars etc.

Thanks SengH, and yeah, you are right, i think i should properly use email. But if a Dev could just briefly comment on whether this data is collected at all, i would be grateful. I could make a CPI myself, but its alot of work to do from the normal market screen.
My interest in EvE came when I read an article on DA auctions where the authors used a computer model with 12 human players and a bunch of simulated ZI (basically random) actors. With the ammount of actors in eve and the welldocumented activites on the market i thought that it would be a paradise for doing a kind of large scale experimental economics.
When Im done with this semesters paper, ill make a theory and methodology discussion and post it on the forums.

Wrong! They happen to read the forums very often. just b/c you don't see them posting all the time, doesn't mean they aren't reading them.

trust me CCP collect a lot lot of data - as they have posted perivously their data mining capabliities extend to every single aspect of the game. That said they only reveal such data when they wish to (recently it was who had the most skillpoints in the game and a big breakdown) anoterh time was how many ships were by type ingame (this was to support a balancing) and also the enhancment of damage control mods. And other ammo changes they have used ingame data to make balancing transactions
Another one the average value of each transaction ingame and NPC kill was where they set corp taxes to kick in at - to little and to much data to high and taxes wouldnt work - the average number came in at 35000 ISK and hence any mission rewards or NPC kills over 35000 are counted as taxable anything under not so (no transaction tax was implemented on market transaction due to escrow and other bypasses)

Dont you mean PlanetSide? you know the game where the devs take your money and put it into everquest development. also where they have a "fan faire" and just cut and paste a tiny Planetside icon into the corner and the focus of the event is on everquest while devs tell you "oh im a fan of PS but...". where the servers are down and the devs dont acknowledge the problem. Also where their idea of 'development" is giving you cowboy hats and other fashion accessorys in a First Person Shooter.

We do have the data, and although we'd like to help you out, I'm afraid that we already have a number of academics working in some way on EVE and we simply don't have the resources to work with you.

Thanks for the hint. Unfortunately its properly going to be a while before i get it done due to the simple reason that I have to finish my current project, so dont hold your breath. I dont even know if my idea is feasable...
But hopefully i can bookmark the thread and drag info out of them later, even though the problem fields seem very different (based on the questionaire).

Thanks Oveur, If someone is already working on it, I would rather just be able to lean back, let them do the hard work and then nitpick at it when it gets published. Just promise to make a forum post whenever something based on their work gets published so the rest of us can read it.

NO WAI!!!!!
I tought this is only webpage where you can collect nice emails from [email protected] by calling some country to be bad or some other silly reason (teh normal and usual trollin').
Isn't this like SomethingAwful where you have to pay for forum access? Like 15 euros (or 12 euros if you live in right country *cough* ffs laws *cough*) per month to troll and post those nude pixx of Oveur and Kieron together ... in bath tube ... roleplaying Cpt. Kirk and Spock ... mmm! brb toilet!
