Edited by: Manion Taleroth on 02/05/2006 02:12:06 Cormorant: Highs, as many of the same size gun as you can fit.
The rest really won't matter while running level 1s. Level 2s, might want to make sure to include a shield booster. A Merlin will have 0 chance for level 2s, and until you have enough experience and skills to be able to answer this question yourself, I wouldn't take the Cormorant on a level 2, either. I'd use a cruiser.

Don't use a cruiser for level 1s (though they can be fun with smartbombs), don't use a cormorant for levels 2s unless you have good skills.
Cormorant makes level 1s ultra easy and is manageable if you know what you're doing for SOME level 2s, but not all level 2s. If you do want to progress and you're just concerned with missions and ratting, Cormorant isn't something to be concerned with. It's a niche vehicle.

That's surprisingly well thought out for a new person. Usually people mix and match guns. What you want in the two spare slots could be an afterburner (if you have grid) or tracking computers (if you have the skills). For your one low slot try and fit a Magnetic Field Stabilizer, it will maximize the damage your guns put out. ----

Hmm my first Merlin did quite well on a load of level 2 missions (until I encountered my first 'Illegal Activity' mission at least ).
I do agree that you're better off in a cruiser for level 2 missions though. Destroyers have plenty of firepower for their size but they have the all the armor / shield strength of a wet paper bag if you get into trouble.
There are quite a few level 2's that with a little thought about how to approach them rather than just taking the 'gung ho' attitude you can do just fine with a frigate (especially a merlin or kestrel if you can maintain the range). Of course, it is much easier in a cruiser, and some missions (like Illegal Activity / Tech Secrets) you really need a cruiser to do (and the right gear fitted).

on a merlin if you fit something like: 2x 125mm 2x standard launcher, small t2 shield booster, medium extender, ab, cap recharger, 2x PDU, i think you can *****lvl 2 missions
gistii booster and it won't even be an issue, tho if you can buy gistii boosters you'd prolly be in a harpy which in turn would *****any cormorant

well i just started using a Merlin and Comorant for lvl2 missions and the merlin is definetly worth while, not the fastest but it can tank through all of the lvl2 missions ive had so far appart from 1 ship where it struggled to break the npcs tank.
