This theme was composed by German composer Heino Gaze in 1958 and it became famous when Lawrence Welk recorded it with his orchestra in 1961.

I can totally see that genre being popular among certain people... Guess that every country haves a genre like this, appreciated by roughly the same kind of persons, notwithstanding the cultural hues ...

The Spanish equivalent would be, probably, the bolero! And here's one of my favorites: Dyango - Querer y perder (1980) Right on IF, it really is the same thing fantastical romance theme. With the pure professional musical execution and production, supporting a passionate vocalist. I can imagine a concert hall full of grandmas and some grandpas, who are still in the game and ready to groove. So good!
We lost Lawrence Welk about 1 second into the video though. He had to cover his and the whole orchestras eyes.

Ah, the video. Admittedly didn't watched it, just cared for the sound quality and that the song was complete...
BTW: "Dyango" is a stage name. His real name is Jos+¬ G+¦mez Romero, and his stage name was made after some Django Reinhardt...
