Very simple quality of life change for those who work with gases:
Give us compression at a 10:1 ratio.
Fullerenes vary in volume from 2m3 to 10m3 per unit.
Cytoserocin and Mykoserocin are both 10m3 per unit.
Why?
- Gases have a huge volume, similar to some ores. Yet we have no way of easily moving these products in large volumes except for an easily destroyed T1 industrial, the Miasmos.
- Gases compress easily. Solids do not. Yet we have ore and ice compression and not gas compression? Makes no sense from a physics standpoint.
How to implement:
All the mechanics are already in place or planned for the summer expansion. All that needs to be done is to create new compressed gas items in the database and allow Rorquals and the upcoming Compression Array to make them from the already extant gases. CCP would also have to implement reprocessing of the compressed gases back to their normal items.
Personally, I would like to see BPCs/reactions that allow for compressed gases to be used at 1/10th of the rate of the standard gases. But I'm sure that would require more effort such as changing code to allow for 'OR' operators on materials rather than just 'AND's. It would also require quantity changes and tweaks as well. So probably won't happen.
Who would this benefit?
- Those who haul gases to and from markets.
- W-space squatters that drop a POS, stay for a couple weeks, then bail with their loot.
- Gankers upon scanning a ship with a large amount of compressed gases.
- Booster producers especially, since almost all gases for booster production are routed through Jita.
- Hybrid Polymer producers living in K-space for the same reasons as booster producers.
Who would this not benefit?
- Anyone not working with gases. (Durr)
- Those who produce their product on site. (Mostly C6 residents with complete T3 production chains.)
- Those producing a single line of Standard or Synth boosters from locally sourced gases.

Agree on this, coz there'll be those who compress a lot into a t1 hauler 
Question though,
- gas is sold on the market as-is quite fine, but if the compressed version becomes an item also on the market it would become two entries, with two different prices etcetc itll never be a perfect conversion between the two.
I can see that being a problem, essentially providing a fast lucrative market for those with or without a Rorqual, depending on which entry is most popular (I suppose looking at compressed ore on the market now for example).
Hopefully the compressed gas market would have a very similar price to uncompressed, but using an 'either' item in the reaction thingys is gonna cause headaches
I'm gonna suggest that it could, for the sake of simplicity, be possible to decompress gas with a simple right-click in hangars, otherwise its gonna get messy with POS reaction ingredients. This way you can hoover up gas > compress > transport > decompress > Sell or Use @ POS. Avoiding two entries on the market would be great imo, and maybe go so far as to not have compressed gas on the market and just in contracts
thoughts? I'm all for compressing gas but if it means I'd need a rorqual to claim competitive prices for my goods..its kinda sucky. |

If only because compressing gas is so much more logical then compressing ores and ice. It is simple technology we use everywhere in RL. It not being available is an odd thing. I hate arguing with static minds that relate everything relative to the status-quo. By definition these minds oppose logic, reason, posses a narrow view and object against solutions for issues that have half an existing workaround. Left up to them, nothing would ever progress!

But you can already compress gas through reactions. And gas as it stands in eve closer to minerals then ores because it goes straight to production without the need to be reprocessed in any fashion unlike ore. |

I love the idea of a mobile drug lab - the Space Winnebago! Honestly though, the current method for reacting requires a lot of intermediate materials, and I think might be too complex for a small mobile setup. That many mobile structures would be pretty vulnerable without some defense (read: POS). At the very least, it would be a lot easier to do an intermediate reaction to reduce the size of the gas for transport. For boosters this may be the first stage raw booster. For wormhole fullerite gas, this would be one of the intermediate Fullerene reactions.
I seriously doubt you'll get CCP to make changes to current POS code, but considering they are adjusting compression and refining ratios for ore, it makes sense to do it for gas as well. Being able to compress gas for transport using a mobile structure, and either uncompressing it, or converting it into an intermediate reaction with the proper ratio, would be a good change.
