Don't have t2 rails yet (will soon), you guys suggest I switch from Scouts to Prototypes?

Actually protos have same damage mod as t2 425s. The big difference though is that you cannot use the really good ammo in tech 1 guns. With good skills though and protos you'll have plenty of range to use tungsten and will still have the punch to do the job.

Protos are great for fitting when you're not in a pure sniper setup (Which the mega can easily fit)
Spike is... okay... but the tracking penalty is painful and the extra 50km range does not make up for it - the transversal isnt reduced by 75% at that range (unlike your tracking) so you may find quite a reduction in DPS.
btw, I've never sniped in lowsec (too dull) - is 150km really far away enough from the sentries? I though they could hit at that range....

As long as you are 151 or more away, they just sit there and look at you. And I found Iron works just as well with protos as tungsten really. A slight dropoff in damage but not really that much. Also, on the topic of tracking, I teamed with a tempest using 1400t2's and tremor and I noticed that while he was the heavy hitter from 155+, I was way more accurate and basically hogged all the pod kills
I do however look forward to moving up to the 425T2's and the better t2 ammo.

Was wondering what your average hit is with the T2 425s and spike ammo.

Yes, that's why you pirate right. Why don't you grow some balls and shoot at people why want to shoot you back. Being a pirate is mostly about preying on those who doesn't want a fight, it's just that their egos get inflated by tanking sentries so they think they want a proper fight. ---

Oh well, definitely better than those aligned at 200km snipers. Also it is pretty much impossible to tank sentries with stabs. (unless on raven/scorp)

t2 ammo is ftw at sniping.
It does 60% more damage than t1 long range ammo.
Because of the worse tracking it actually benefits you to sit further away (190km +-) from the gate.

Edited by: FooB2 on 13/05/2006 00:27:32 i (used to) use a megathron for sniping. drop the tracking comp, enhancers are better. absolutley no point in the repairer add more tracking (for the optimal rather than gun tracking). and for the love of god, SPIKE L
yes, spike is your friend, and an absolute must to snipe well. imagine using plutonium charges @ 200km. thats what its like. as for hitting atrons. maybe if your positioned right to eliminate transversal.
currently, i ditched my megathron for an eagle simply because whenever i snipe someone else usually turns up and joins in, and they tend to deal out the damage, so i go for the sheer scan res (1100mm opposed to the megathrons 400mm, nearly 3x the locking speed) and the tracking on 250mm rails, and yes i still use spike, except jus the med version (obviously.) which is cheaper than the large stuff anyway. i kill the shuttles, the afterburnering-nanoing ceptors that think theyre invincible (the ones that carry BPs are the funniest) and i tend to have stuff podded before theyve even gone through the menus.
it may not do the damage of a megathron, but whats the damage when you cant hit the small ships in the first place. though uts still sitting there setup up for quick switch incase a situation would arise where i need no. and by no means is it a full-on replacement for the megahtron.

i know it seems bent, but there are a suprising amount of people that think its safe transporting BPs and skills through low sec just cos people will leave you alone if youre in a shuttle.
as it stands, since i got my alt in power of 2, i havent bought a single skill book yet (aside from the normal learning skills) and ive got all my gunnery skills done, into minmatar BS, i have the HAC skill sitting around waiting. hell, i even got recon ships skill. saved me 30 mil.
plus those nice 2003 players in shuttles hold lovely pods full of implants.
anyway, its not like the eagle isnt capable of killing bigger things, its just that it wont be solo-sniping battleships any time soon.
