Hi All.
I'm new to EVE, although i did play it in Beta...
I played through the tutorial, and got started on a couple of delivery missions, and i can't help but get the feeling that i'm paying $19.95/mo to drive around asking agents "What can brown to for you?"
I'm sure I'm missing something big about EVE here... What is the huge thing about EVE that makes it fun and addictive like other MMOGs. Crafting? Mining? Hunting npc drones (combat seems absurdly boring at this point, by the way - lock, orbit, shoot, get a sandwich, repeat).
Thanks for your feedback!

Start interacting with other people ingame. From what I've seen, that's where EVE really starts to shine.
Though, I tend to be shy myself....

Go work for a different agent, go kill some stuff.
Fit a mining laser and go mining. *Shudder*
Train for a industrial and go trading.
Or my personal favourite, get a kestrel, a bunch of rockets and a warp scrambler and go charging into low sec.
Combat is only boring when it isn't challenging and PVPing with only 350k SP to your name definitely is challenging.

Ever seen "The Transporter". Wow brown kicks ass!!
Ok ok well no. You don't have to be courier boy. Tutorial is there only to get you familiar with the interface. join some chat channels, see what everyone else is talking about...go do stuff!
See something, attack it! Match weapons with target. Quick guide: Mining lasers + roids = good. Mining lasers + rats = bad. Missiles + rats = good. Missiles + roids = bad (sadly, I know this for a fact!)
The eve-verse is your oyster. What you do with it is open to your imagination, though it usually revolves around gaining/losing ISK.

I stumbled across this when checking to see if there was an Eve Online wikipedia entry. Read that and you'll have, in a nutshell, what seems to be most interesting about Eve. Working your way up into a corporation and then getting immeshed in the commerce and warfare in 0.0 space. As a roleplayer, it was reading the debates and dialogues in the forums - and realizing they had a direct impact on and inspiration in what was really going on in the game - that hooked me.
That said, I'm not really very involved yet being a newbie but I'm having far more fun than I should running combat missions from agents, learning how to put ships together in better ways, and building my skills. I feel pretty clever when I come up with a new (to me) way of using some modules on my cramped little T1 frigate, pretty brave when I redo a mission that's killed me or sent me packing before, and pretty darned good when I finally beat it by the skin of my teeth.
And this is all newbie stuff. But there's plenty of different things to get involved in.

You definitely don't have to do courier missions.
I haven't done one in my 18 months + playing EVE.

You could find more combat oriented agents. I just got my Punisher frigate, and one of my missions sent me to deadspace where I had to fight through a blob of 10 or so NPC pirate fighters to get to my target. The rush behind surviving that through tactics, running away, coming back, etc. made it very exciting. Soo...go find some combat with more than one or two pirates, or a bigger craft.

you need to look for a corp that has positions in low security space and get involved in the politics and team combat pvp. this is what eve is all about. the pve in eve is the worst out, it seems, and is not what this game is about.

When it comes to MMORPG's , EVE Online is the worst one when it comes to PVE , but award winning in almost every other catogery.
So while afk hauling goods on autopilot or eating a sandwich and watching tv while your fighting npc drones ... you might want to check out some player made PvP videos , like this one for example MC vs M Corp
Or better yet , join a corp or alliance , use your courier contract as toiletpaper , wave the npc drones goodbye and do what all the other guys are doing who are enjoying this game.
EvE is all about PvP, Corporations, Alliances, friends & foes, teammates and tactics, war & politics, social interaction & random hooting, and general survival of the fittest.
Me personally , i never do courier missions . if i did i probably would have quit the game after the 14 day trial out of sheer boredom.

It is the killing and making people hurt/suffer that make EvE appealing for most people. ---------------- Official -V- Forum CarebearÖ. I mine on forums. RecruitMe@NOINT! |

What seperates Eve is clan based industrial/economic/military warfare.
Besides that, everything else is the same garbage you find in any other mmo.

I find the lack of faeries, dwarves, goblins, trolls, mages and various other cliche characters rather refreshing. Sig removed, please keep it below 24000 bytes, email [email protected] if you have any questions - Xorus |

Hauling can be alot of fun, particularly when you escape the pirates in 0.4 systems that wet themselves when they see a hauler.

And We targets love you to Jenny
Kill missions are sometimes fun, just hard to get them from the other agents.
You can always go on the player hunt, but if you do let me know so I can add you on my Hit list

EVE has some good sticking power in its economy and PvP. If you want to see a terrible MMO, check out Dungeons and Dragons Online.
