Yesterday, I posed a question in Rookie Help that was met with an opinion rather than an answer, and when I said I still needed an answer, apparently the user who initially responded took offense to that (or was just trolling), so they placed a 6 mill ISK bounty on my head.. a player with just over two weeks in the game.
I have a RL friend willing to remove the bounty for me via a duel, but evidently the bounty is not being cleared despite two deaths now. Both times I was sure I had an implant worth at least 6 million ISK (based on market prices) equipped, but neither death offered a payout to my friend.
What exactly is the issue here?
Thanks! |

Bounty payout is 20% of loss value on the killmail
So to clear a 6 million bounty you need to loose 30 mil in stuff.
Also, why would you want it gone, it's not changing ANYTHING in game other then that anybody who kills you gets a small payment for that, paid by money that doesn't comes from your wallet.
So basically, it does NOT affect you in any way. Personal channel: Crazy Dutch Guy

OP - as J'poll suggests, it really doesn't matter. "Do not touch anything unnecessarily. Wear bounties like a badge of honour. I currently have 1 billion bounty on my head and it doesn't interfere with my gameplay much, if at all. |

I have a bounty. Most of my characters have bounties.
Including the lab and market alts that never undock.
The bounties haven't changed anything in my gameplay.
Actually, lately I've been reading a lot of posts on how people that place bounties regret it, because they continually get spammed with EVE-mail payout notices from very active PvPers. The notices never stop if others keep adding to the original bounty too. |

Yep, just chiming in to agree with the general advice here - bounties mean virtually nothing. Above all, stop trying to clear it - you're just throwing away ISK.
Forget all CCP's advertising of the bounty hunting profession in EVE - it doesn't exist. It's quite likely that most people won't even know about the bounty unless they're already checking you out as a potential target and even then it will only make a difference if it makes you the most attractive available target, which isn't guaranteed. |

As people have been saying, bounties have been and remain broken. They are largely pointless. The one exception being that if you have a huge bounty and fly an expensive ship in empire, you might encourage ganking, but if you fly an expensive ship you are already a target for ganking, so the added risk is probably de minims. I don't play, I just fourm warrior. |

I actually think it quite cool to have a bounty on my head. Makes me think that I made a difference to someone. The trouble is I lose about 40 ships a month on this char and any bounty I get is usually gone within a day or two.
Now I have a freighter alt who picked up a 100,000 bounty in high sec shortly after the new bounties came out, just hauling goods down the pipe from Jita to Rens. That was was around December 2012 and he still has it. Yes I'm fairly sure if you have a bounty and someone pods you and you have implants fitted the attacker will get 20% of their value in ISK if there is enough bounty ISK in the kitty. I'm fairly sure it happened to me a little while ago after I was podded as my bounty went down a lot. |

Posting to say I agree, the bounty system is broken and having a bounty placed on your character is nothing to worry about.
Also I'd like to add that the players who posted the bounty actually just wasted their ISK.

Broken!
Useless!
Waste of ISK!
Bounties are a subscription service to keep track of a characters losses, and slightly rewards parties that cause these losses. That they do not affect agression mechanics does not make them "broken" or "useless". Is it unwise to spend your ISK on bounties? Well it probably is. But they say the same things about drugs and alcohol in real life. Doesn't mean one can't have a little fun... |
