Just trained into HAC's starting this morning, and want to work on a good Zealot fit for PVP. I've seen a few different suggestions from corpies, and basically my questions boil down to:
AB or MWD? I've seen both suggested.
Super tank / mediocre gank or Darn good gank / mediocre tank?
Fit suggestions and rationales behind them would be greatly appreciated!

If you get caught and hard tackled, it's just a cruiser hull and it dies fast. And losing a Zealot kinda hurts
I've had my best fun/success in a MWD/Scorch fit/Kitey Zealot. Hit and run tactics, manual piloting, in small gangs.

Nah looking mainly for a solo PVP fit. I think for fleets I'll put together a kitey fleet and use the above-mentioned mwd/scorch kite setup.

From the lack of replies the OP should probably conclude the following;
- zealot is very limited in use, it's very good at what it does but that's about it - using one solo generally is a recipe for disaster, it's a fleet ship really - if you do try it solo or small gang it's certainly not a "I'm kinda new to this all, I just trained this so lets try and use it" ship
Because it's a fleet ship people will be using standardised fleet fits and as such there is a "if you have to ask, you shouldn't use one" going on.
If you want to use it solo, don't if you want to use it in a small gang there's probably better ships for that if you want to use it in a fleet ask your FC or check your corp fittings

Well it wasn't what I wanted to hear but it's honest. Once again I find myself regretting going Amarr to start with.

Amarr as a whole can solo a whole lot better than it used to but still, overall, they're more a teamwork thing. There are exceptions, their T1 frigs are quite good and one of the inties is a beast, cruisers and faction cruiser are also really good (Navy Omen is quite amazing).
The real issue is that aiming for bling or T2 ships isn't going to give you victories, it's not like other MMOs where better gear will automatically get you wins. Until a pilot gets a better understanding of how stuff really works in EVE there's no point in throwing bigger or more expensive ships at the problem. |

for solo action you might want to take a look into the Omen Navy Issue ;) You do not need the HAC skill, but ... yeah just take a look. Could be worth and as that solo-PvP-Stuff seems to be somehow new for you, you can afford 2 ONI instead of 1 Zealot |

Alright thanks, both of you. I actually already have an ONI so I'll play around with it. Good point, tis certainly cheaper then the Zealot. Guess I'll go throw a few of those around and hopefully learn from the failures (and hopefully have some successes.)
My main issue is that almost all of my PVP experience has either been small-gang roams, gatecamps, or mid-sized Bombers Bar / Spectre Fleet ops. I want to get more into solo PVP, especially since I keep off hours lol. Any further suggestions on how/where to learn more would be greatly appreciated.
In the meantime, will EFT what I THINK will be some good ONI fits and see how they work in practice
Thanks again o7

For solo PVP you should probably start in frigates, partly because they're relatively cheap but also because they're really powerful and fun, they also teach you a whole lot more about PVP. Executioner and Tormentor are really good frigates, Punisher is also quite good but it's less versatile and very obvious in its strategy. |

Great, thanks for that tip! My only REAL frig experience was missions in my younger days (in a Punisher, lol,) and a little minnie experience on a FW alt that I havent done much at all with, but this is my main/highest SP toon so I wanna utilize him. I have good gunnery skills so Ive got something to build on. Will check out Exec and Tormentor and start my education. Thanks again!

Then you want a kiting navy omen. Zealot will disappoint you as a solo boat and losing a HAC to a solo frig will get you mocked by your corp mates. Money at its root is a form of rationing. When the richest 85 people have as much wealth as the poorest 3.5 billion (50% of humanity) it is clear where the source of poverty is. http://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2014/jan/20/trickle-down-economics-broken-promise-richest-85 |

If you've got decent missile skills and want to fly a HAC, consider the Sacrilege. It's a ship much more adapted to solo and small group.
With their missiles uninpacted by tracking and their number of mid slot, Khanid ship are more versatile than their pure laser Amarr T2 counterpart. |

The Omen Navy Issue is the solo version of the Zealot. Faster, cheaper, drones and a neutralizer. |
