So now that I have the HAC skill trained and can train the Recon Ship skill once i feel like dropping the 40 mil on it, its now time for me to decide what ship to fly. I'm trying to choose between the Cerebus, Eagle, Rook and Falcon.
Cerebus: This is what I would really like to buy, simply for soloing lvl 4 missions in Empire. First off, very expensive. With being in an active war, I'm not going to fly this anywhere anytime soon. And I dont feel like bringing down to PvP in 0.0. 250 mil isnt a lot of money, but still.
Eagle: My immediate second choice until I remember that I have very little SP in the way of gunnery. T2 Heavies are just a few days away for me, and I think i have about 800K in Gunnery. How well do you think I would be able to fly this one?
Rook: I love the resistances and the 7 midlsots. Not nearly as expensive the Cerebus. To me this is a deadly ship. This would be mainly for PvPing in 0.0, and maybe mission running later in Empire. Only problem is that it cant use the COCDII.
Falcon: I love the fact that it can use the COCDII. But then I'm hurt by the lower resistences and only 2 Launcher points.
So thats my dilema. Also, being that I've never flown one of these, I am unsure how to fit them, although I'm pretty sure you treat them like their T1 counterparts.
So if you all could share with me youre experiences with these four ships, and advice on fitting them and how they fit in the roles I need, that would help a lot.

Considering your skills, i'd say get a cerberus. They are worth the price tag imho, because they will pwn missions and easily do complexes in 0.0. Cerberus for PVE i'd almost say it requires a Gisti shield booster. I mean seriously if your gonna drop that much chedda on a ship, buck up and get the good shield booster to ensure it's safety. ------------------------------------------------- Pimpin Hoes and Slammin Cadillac Doors......

Edited by: Erik Pathfinder on 03/05/2006 21:48:10 On a cerberus, I recommend the following. --HIGH-- 5 x t2 heavy launchers 1 x tractor beam (looting) / nos (if you can fit it after next items) --MID-- 1 x t2 AB 2 x t2 Large Shield Extender 1 x Gistii A-type Small Shield Booster 1 x Specific Hardener (EM usually) / best named Target Painter / One more shield booster --LOW-- 3 x t2 Ballistic Control System 1 x t2 Power Diagnostic System
Should give you about 7.5k shields with a decent passive recharge and the boosters ought to run VERY long if not indefinately. ---------------

The Falcon is a fun, fun ship for group PvP -- far and away my favorite ship I've piloted so far. The wealth of mid slots and the covert ops cloaking device mean you can take on most support roles (recon, tackling, jamming, nos) and do a decent job of all of them at once.
The only thing you can't do with it is pack a punch. If you like making the big explosions, it may not be for you, but if you're happy with a support role then it's a hell of a cruiser.

I prefer a rook over a falcon though.
Rooks are sexeh. ---

Okay, I've established that I will go with the Rook. Now as for fitting I'm assuming that it will be:
5 T2 Heavies 1 Med Diminishing Nos
1 Really nice SB 1 Really nice Large Shield Extender Some Racial ECMs What about hardeners?
What about the Lows?

5x Assault t2 1x Nos 5x Racial Jammers II 2x Large Shield Extender II 1x Damage Control 1x Whatever (Ballistic/Signal Amp/PDS II)
Depends on what you want to do as all things do. You want to be the Jammer while beeing a small scout ? Falcon is your choise. Jammy Jammy, make them whine till they flood the forums ? Go for the Rook Sniping the enemy, or beeing a bait ? Eagle is the best for that Rathunting till you drop dead, while it's still a good platform for close/midrange pvp ? Cerberus beats all the other 3 _____________________________

Also, I forgot to ask how the Rook will handle PVE. Particularly ratting in 0.0.

I haven't tried to rathunt in a Rook It has the midslots for a nasty tank, but I don't think that you will be able to kill the big BS. A Raven is much more better to rathunt in tbh _____________________________

rook is fine for rathunting as well. if it cant lock you it cant hurt you :)
it just isnt fast at killing as cerbie. and it doesnt have the cargo bay cerbie has.
And you dont have to go with racial jammers, just fit at least 3 multi's and kill them one by one. The resists and 1 shield booster / invul field should give you enough edge to kill them even if some arent being jammed at that moment. <dude, where's my sig?> |
