Hey I had a few questions about these things. How do they work? Can you get to things that are inbetween systems with them? And are phenomena like black holes possible to get to (if they even exist in EVE?)

Deep space probes are the longest range scan probes. They find ships. ---- EVE-Central.com | Obsidian Technologies - 0.0 Manufacturing, Defense and Logistics. We're hiring! Mail me |

Alright, thanks. I know how scan probes work, I just didnt know if these were special or something, besides having really long range.

they scan an entire system. every thing, if there is a bs in safe using an old super safe bm . then it will report it and drop you within 192 au away from the target you then need to get 3 bms 192 au away to do another scan. then you will drop out 48 au away from him, use the 2 192 au probes with the one 48 that will drop you 12 au from him, use the 1 12au+ 48au + 192au probe that will drop you 3 au away from your target.
then guess what. use the 3au the 12 and the 48 au probes and you will get another bm 3 au away from the target. once u have that.
then use the 3au and the other 3au and the 12au and get the final 3au bm. once you have that ..
guess what use the 3*3au probes and u will find your target. its almost impossible not to find a ship that has not moved. :-)
most people dont know you can use "smaller" probes with the bigger one.
however i have not tested the 192 au probes with the system scanner. supose its worth a try one day.
have fun.

And hence the reason a pilot moving between multiple safespots in a system can avoid ever being found. Oh yeah and cloaks work too.

And hence observers and 192 AU probes aren't broken in a way that unbustable super safes exist. After using observers to get some places near the target and placing 192 AU probes on the the right positions, even a 500 AU deep safe 60 degree from the sun, so many AU above the system plane can be busted.
Only problem is that it's impossible to scan someone down, who moves. ___________ 'Only ships can be assembled, this is a Frigate.' |

You can use them to make deep deep safe spots ;) -

Does this mean that you'll get a spot within 192 AU from your target at the same plane?

They don't work like that. Imagine your 3 probes floating around in space in a triangle formation. They'll scan everything inside that triangle and everything within 1AU from the edges of that triangle. -------------------------------------------------------------------------

If that is true, can you explain to me how it is possible to drop 3 probes at the same spot and still find safespots with them?

you can drop the scanprobes how you like but they are scanning only the intersection of scan-areas
