Edited by: Rift Scorn on 04/05/2006 12:01:40 I'm REALLY looking forward to Huxley! Been following development of this since i heard they were going to use the U3 engine. I've been playing UT since 99 and im still pretty handy at it ... lies, i'm awesome at it!
I'll need a new PC to play Huxley on though It'll be interesting how they implement PvP and Missions though. There has to be something above and beyond the whole frag/spawn/frag/spawn continum. The reason i play EVE is because the death penalties are pretty damn harsh compared to everything else out there, which is the cmplete opposite in nature to FPS. If they implement death/re-spwan well, then it could be brilliant! If the mess it up, it'll be dreadful.

Quote: from article
PvP battle fields are separated from Persistent World areas such as villages, and the scale ranges from the usual 4 vs. 4 battles to massive 100 vs. 100 battles.
(...)
Our goal for the size of a Huxley city is 4x4 km, but it is difficult to compare Huxley's world to that of general MMORPG as there are instanced PvP arenas.
So what it boils down to is, that it isn't really all that different from a non-mmorpg fps? :P
The only difference is is that your character's attributes improve over time, and that you join a PVP instance, instead of a BF2 server, for example. Bit fake imho, to pass it off as a mmorpg... then again, maybe this is the norm for other mmorpg's, i've only played EVE so far in this genre so I haven't got a lot of comparison material. But who knows, it could be fun to play... :p
I'd have probably liked the idea of this game more if it were 1 big world, (or atleast lots of little worlds chained together, like EVE) instead of instances. But it has to be doable server wise i guess... FPS's are probably more demanding in that respect than mostly statistics-based games like EVE. It'll come down to gameplay I guess, whether or not this game is 4TW or 4TL. :D

I'll be staying 10 miles away from this... You think WoW's community is bad? Picture an MMO targeted towards FPS players. I learned a very important lesson after playing FPS games for 5 years, the community is 99% obnoxious egotistical idiots who will mouth off in response to anything. ----- Lighten up a little bit. It's only the end of the world. |

Instancing is such a copout, nevertheless it looks interesting.

Looks interesting, ill give it a go I think. And yeah, itll live or die by the quality of its community, so i probably wont play it for long, but eh, should be fun for a couple of months :) ----------------

I say, BLEH!!!
Quote: we reached the conclusion that 100vs100 was the most ideal. This is, of course, bigger than the scale of current FPS games like Battlefield 2, which are 32 vs. 32 battles.
Oh yeah I want to pay a monthly subscription to have instanced style area play on par with Joint Operation...wait JO can do 132 x 132 player battles, and its FREE except for your original purchase price.
Pfft!!!!
For those of you that cant wait, I'm happy your excited. Personaly I think its a very weak implementation of a MMOFPS...hell its not even that. Its a GW clone with bigger PvP arenas.
I rate it a piece of ****, so "bad"

I must say im a huge fan of FPS played Quake on the internet since good old Quake 1 DM through TF and CTF ... all the way to Rocket Arena when I started playing Q2 DM and CTF, up to AQ2 ... all the way to Q3 DM and CTF following AQ3 and that was my final line in the Quake saga... also got my ass in UT saga and HL.... So if they are making my favourite type of game a MMOFPS i think i will take a look so i must say "GOOD" for now, who knows ... WoW was good for me until i see my self surrounded by kindergarden ... and there was nothing else to do.

I think it looks pretty interresting, and at the moment it's very hard to imagine how it's going to be. They might make and awesome game, but it's more likely (IMO) that they'll screw it up somehow.
That being said, I'll definately try it once it gets released.
