Hi. First, I'd like to apologize if this topic has already been asked in the forums.
I'd like to get into the Research field and was wondering what skills I would need to start off with. Can anyone clarify what skills I would need if I wanted to research say Hybrid Blasters? Also, it says in the faq's that you will accumulate research points daily even without doing anything. Is this right? If so, does that mean I can just sign up with an agent that I qualify for and just do other aspects of the game and still accumulate research points?
Currently I have Science 4, Research 1, Industry 5 (if it matters any).
Thanks in advance.

You don't research 'hybrid blasters.' A hybrid blaster may be seeded in the T2 BPO lottery, but it'll be under some other science category; graviton physics, rocket science, electrical engineering, etc. Each of those category's has a skill for it and requires science level 5 as a prerequisite.
Level 1 agents require the specific science skill at level 1, level 2 agents at level 2, etc.
Yes, you can just start research with an agent and forget about it until if and when you get an eve-mail stating that 'our research has been fruitful.' Your RPs will accumulate automatically each day, but you can run the daily mission for the agent and double the RPs for that day.
1 RPs is equal to 1 lottery ticket for that particular research category.

And once you want to use a second agent you will need Research Project Management. That Requires Labratory operation 5 and Reseach 5.

Alain,
You dont need the specific science skill trained to level 4 to use a level 4 R&D Agent.
I currently have Plasma Physics at a measly level 2 but am using a level 4 agent. Standing is the factor that determines the quality of agent you can use.
I believe that extra ranks in Plasma Physics would give me more Research Points/day.

Yes. And the bonus can be quite nice, so I suggest training it to at least III. It won't take that long.
