hi,
i was thinking drones were good now, but just today my valkyre II stuck together again and would just stop and sit tight on "return and orbit" or "return to drone bay". attacking was no problem again, but giving return commands just makes them sit there and do nothing.
is there a workaround? are you working on this? life's a game - sometimes you loose, most times other win. |

This is a horrible bug. I find I have to kill everything (for instance on a mission) and then just let them return and orbit by themselves and scoop. Any attempt to give commands to either return to bay or return and orbit render them unresponsive.
The results of this behavior if you need to get out before everything is dead is obvious, you lose your drones.

Edited by: inSpirAcy on 04/05/2006 16:28:44 It wasn't fixed. I think Return to Drone Bay became slightly more reliable, but the whole system is still broken.
Edit: the workaround is to tell your drones to engage something (in front of you, if you're moving) and then to return to orbit before scooping.

This cost me a Thorax the other day. I had just finished taking out a CDC's Taranis and I was trying to get the drones in the bay for a quick exit, but they simply stopped moving because the Taranis' one drone was out, and my Valkyrie II's wanted to attack it. Just as I managed to get the last one in the bay, I had 3 BS and a tackler warp in on me and I was dead within seconds.
Had my wonderful, speedy little T2 Drones moved as fast as they were supposed to I would have had them in the bay and been halfway in warp the gate back before the BS even showed up.

I don't understand why they don't simply remove the drone collision detection thingy. I can't see what harm could come from that. Also they should increase the drone scoop range by 1km and we would have no trouble with drones orbiting just outside scoop range.

Edited by: madaluap on 04/05/2006 17:03:32 Think of these rules on drone-usage:
-Never launch em before you are within 20 k range
-Monitor when a target explodes and asign drones to new target just before he explodes, if you dont do this they will engage everything exept the things you want them to attack. If you try to re-assign em after explosion they will (TRY TO) engage the new target BUT they wont mwd aka 30 m/s.
Try to avoid drones as a primary weapon: -A lot of times they will just move damn slow and you cant scope em before you (have to) warp. -IF you do use drones as primary weapon, use <20-15 k setups so you can scope them yourselves, just totally ignore that they can move themselves, its a nice bonus if they actually return.
IMO if you think about these rules you will be fine, soooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo sad CCP soooo sad _________________________________________________ In worldwar 2 they called me *****slap |

Having flown a Dominix for a while now, I've experienced these problems quite a bit myself.
Even if you let your drones return by themselves however, they still sometimes will sit just barely out of scoop range.
Problem is, they turn off their mwd as soon as they start to orbit, but if you're moving away from them when they start to orbit, they'll kinda bounce off your ship.
Basically you either have to not be moving at all, or be moving towards them. I've lost plenty of drones because of this bug.

Try to scoop them while going 1200m/s (MWDing curse). Sometimes it is needed :/ And i cant stop to pick them up during combat...

Edited by: Talori''i on 04/05/2006 20:04:02 My dominix was sat parked in a deadspace area, and I recalled my drones and they just sat there at 1600 m. Why cant the drone scoop range just be extended?

Drone scoop range doesnt need to be extended.
The drones just need t fly full speed at you anytime they're recalled, period, and not stop, even if it means they ram into your ship, which they wont do because they vanish into the drone back once in range.

The drones go into a 1000m orbit, and the problem is that any drone that is faster than a Warrior I, MWDing will never be able to be scooped if the scoop range isn't increased.
Boosting scoop range to double is the quickest, and best, way of fixing this, assuming that the drones return to drone bay behaviour still *think* that the scoop range is 1500m New sig coming soonÖ Drone musing (MC-boards) |
