I love my catalyst, wonder how many of you share my love? Also any suggestions for a noob like me to make it even better? Right now mine has 6 150mm rail guns loaded out with thorium rounds. Oh and a ECM shockwave genereator and a wasp scout drone.

Catalyst is a great ship, when i was in the starter corp me and 6 others all got catalysts and went hunting in a squad, bloody good fun, i group of catalysts flying in formations looks like a squadron of B-Wings out of Star Wars, except without the foils locked in attack position
Try fitting 8 125mm instead of 6 150mm, the extra 2 guns and the increased rate of fire make up for the slight decrease in base damage.
Have you considered a close range setup? Ion Blasters, Small Nos, MWD, stasis webber, with 4 small nos and 4 blasters you could cause some real damage to any frigate sized ships that pester you.

Whether you are PvPing or PvEing, swap those 150's for 125's (as the above poster said).

I love my Catalyst too. The reason I don't use it more than I do is that - with missions being what I do 95% of the time currently - it can basically only do level 2 missions, and not even all of those (at my current skill levels at least). I can imagine it being fun for group PvP long-range support though ;) So as it is it mostly gets used when I decide to check on nearby complexes or run the occasional level 2 mission.
It's a shame there's no tech II variant that would keep the Catalyst's optimal range bonus and all the turret slots Eris, if used in combat, is basically a low-mid-range ship at best.

I was drawn to the Catalyst on the basis that it looks like a B-wing also, very cool looking ship. I recently lost one in PVP, I think because my guns were being jammed.

I too love my catalyst... I use my Thorax more, because I'm just not a very good pilot, and having 5k in armor and 50% resists helps when I'm getting shot, but it never seems as fun as when I'm in my cat.
It's especially good as a supporting gunboat. I warp in with my Thorax and draw fire, with my friend flying a cat coming in right behind me to deal damage without having to tank at all.

I love the way it looks and the way it flies: elegant.
The single-wing design means that it looks like it moves when it turns, really heeling over like a clipper ship.
I fly with 125s, but have a 150 Cat socked away for shock value.
I love my Catalyst.

PVP setup
Highs - 8 125mm's (just t1 is fine, but if you want to splurge for some t2's or better named)
Mids - 1x mwd 1x web
lows 1x small armor rep 1x mapc (pdu works fine too if you have advanced weapon upgrades) 1x nanofiber
Tactics - take on any frig (maybe not the gallente/caldari af's because they have really high therm/kin res) and you will win. Most underestimate this ship, but inty's especially will engage like 95% of the time. and once you have an inty webbed, theyre srewed. If its a long range inty, you can switch to long range ammo and with a decent lvl of destroyer, your tracking bonus with the already good tracking on 125's you should have killed him before he knows whats going on . All in all its my favorite cheap ship to use, even more so than cruisers and bcs. just dont take on too much

Yeah, this is why it's great to have a tanking ship flying with you...
Catalyst has a great punch, but a glass jaw.

Not necessarily.
8 x 75mm railgun tech II 1 x named AB I 1 x small cap. battery II 1 x small armor repairer II 1 x energized adaptive nano I 1 x 400mm crystaline carbonite plate
T2 75mm's are inexpensive, so you can fit them without feeling embarrased. This whole setup costs less than an unequipped cruiser. They rival named T1 125s in DPS. Even rival in range, if you use T2 ammo; 75mm's track better and there's the destroyer bonus, so despite the ammo tracking deduction they're not bad. With T1 ammo, you can track anything at range 500m to 25km with full effect.
And it can tank decently. 1500 armor hps plus some resistance and enough cap regen to fight and repair for a long time with decent sklls. The plate slows it down a bit but not too badly.
People like to say destroyers have the sig radius of a cruiser, but it isn't true. They fall between frigates and cruisers. Maybe in PvP with target painters and the like there's no difference, but it is noticeable in PvE I believe. |

You've listed far more skills than I bring to the table, but it's good to know that in a month or so I'll be able to break my cat out again and have some *real* fun.
