If Eve now has a player base of 120,000, why do I never see more than an average of 21,000 players online at any one time...that is barely a sixth of the total player base. When I get online in the morning on a Saturday (6am) and play on and off all day, this covers most of the prime play times globally (I'm in Australia), and yet as the day progresses, the numbers gradually decline from the 20 - 21000 peak in my am, until the downtime(9pm EST Aus). Seems odd only a sixth of the entire playerbase is ever online at one time...Europe is on average approx 8 hrs behind us, and the southern US states are approx 14 hrs behind us, with the northern US states approx 10 hrs behind, so we cover a pretty broad spectrum of the prime playing times. I just find it curious.

Time zone differences...unused/forgotten/abandoned accounts...occasional players...R+D alts just collecting RP...Character training accounts...many, many reasons.

Edited by: Jim McGregor on 06/05/2006 10:05:47 Not sure what the average time/day spent ingame is for every player, but its not 24 hours.
120000/21000 would mean that players spends 5,7 hours online per day in average, but this is of course not accurate since it varies alot during the day and so on.

I think you mean western US is 14 hours behind, eastern us 10 hours. _______________________________________________ I am the devil, and I'm here to do the devils work.

You also have to figure that people can only play for a certain length. I've got a corp member who's on every day, but I only ever see him between 5:30 and 9:30 P.M. (-8 PST, mind you), and he's never on for 4 hours straight. It'll be 6-8 one night, 5:30-9:00 another night, etc. Some people have less time than that and some have more. What it comes down to is that a very small player base is on at any given time. Another thing you have to take into account is that roughly 40% of the player base is alts. Yeah, 50,000 of those accounts (approximately) are run by the same person. Maybe that person doesn't want to run 2 or 3 or 6 (Yes, I've seen it -- 6 different accounts) Eve clients at the same time, further reducing the total active players on at the same time. ___________________________ |

My power of 2 account is still training up it's learning skills. I think you'll see a change in a few weeks, as most of the power of 2 accounts will finish their learning skills, and people will start useing them. Though I figure a lot are like me, and only play 1 account at a time, so the total subscribers goes up, but the total players doesn't.
i rarely dual box, simply becuase I don't really need to, and it doesn't really benefit me atm in my play style.
