Hello everyone,
The birthday event this year will be a little different than last years. We have prepared eleven riddles, and whoever solves them first will be declared winner and have their name go down in history.
Riddle guide: Solutions point to corporations, alliances, people, events or places which then lead to specific solar systems. (E.g. a corpÆs HQ). This includes players, player corps and alliances etc. Once you know the system name, you should use the scanner to look for an object in space.
This object will have a letter or number attached to it. Once you have all the letters/numbers, send them in the correct order along with explanations to all the riddles and your charactername to [email protected]. The first person to do this will be declared winner.
If you do not know the answer straight away, you will need to look into Eve's history, both backstory and player history. Remember though, only one person will receive a prize.
Here are the riddles:
1 You might not heed this advice or care do not go into HED itÆs guaranteed that somebodyÆs there to fill your body with lead.
2 Twenty-two trustworthy men in a popular traders den mysterious number four opens this magical door.
3 Coming and laying their tents causing shouts and creating dents holding their ground for weeks reaching their peaks until the coming of tweaks.
4 Once friends once learning now fiends now burning forever.
5 Down in Stain there lies a system with one way in it is most eastern
6 Many a travellers dream as hopeless at it may seem a friend of mine named Gep is the closest youÆll ever get.
7 She foiled their plan and most of them ran it did not last this empire of the past.
8 Fast deployment and swift results theyÆll work for whoever pays a night stalkers honor heavily weighs on the orders he gets and obeyÆs.
9 To do is to be to do is me machine I am scientist I am or rather, was.
10 A highly dangerous place youÆll find the next clue hidden away close to the diamond ace.
11 A purple Amarr to the south deep in the empireÆs mouth. above the sea with two ways in find this system and win.
I hope you enjoy solving these as much as I enjoyed creating them. Have an excellent Eve-birthday and may all your mining lasers flourish.

Should be interesting - those clues are pretty tough... ----------------------------------------------- The best leaders inspire by example. When that's not an option, intimidation works pretty well too. |

Tricky...
At least this distributes the load over many systems, instead of something centralised which would just crash the node.
I wonder what the prize is...?

I would have been a lot happier if the prize was split up and was actually AT the location you have to scan for. Then you'd have to find the system and track down the prize manually using warp. This whole collecting letters thing is kinda crappy.

Yeah, uhh.. this is pretty pathetic to be honest. I'm sure the reward will be worth it if some corp all gets their collective thinking cap on but the idea of hunting around for special objects in space with letters attached is kind of crappy and totally OOC as far as events go.

I'm thinking the whole thing's a gag, like the "new alliance race" in WoW announced on April 1st. Or maybe all they're doing is testing the load on one particular location. Ergo : more of those lovely traffic advisories, Or, of course, an interesting way to demonstrate that after wednesday, these will no longer be an issue....
In any event, have fun everyone.

What we figured:
1: HED-GP HED-GP is a dangerous system with regular pirate activity
2: Nonni Nonni is a popular trade hub and has 22 stations.
3: Mara Mara was the hangout of the infamous m0o coporation who killed many, resulting in a lot of cries ingame and on galnet. Theyhelped to find flaws in the game mechanics which got tweaked.
4: Crielere The Gallente and Caldari went into Crielere to build research stations as a sign of friendship.
5: 32-GI9 32-gI9 is the most eastern system in stain with only one gate
6:
7: HLW-HP Foyle (foiled), former member of Isecara INC, was leader of the Curse Alliance (empire). Isecara's HQ is in HLW-HP.
8: 5ZXX-K Mordus legion is a strong and reputable mercenary corp who does everything to fulfill their orders.
9: must have something to do with sanshas, but nothing in 36s.
10: Otitoh The Otitoh Solarsystem has an amusement arcarde called "The Diamond Ace Den", which is dangerous as all sorts of people can hang around there
11: Saminer The Traumark installation in saminer is the southern fortress of the amarr empire in the vapor sea. it has two ways in (two gates)

Edited by: Shin Ra on 06/05/2006 23:34:39 How we solved the riddles:
1) N - HED-GP - Famous system that always camped with people ready to kill you (fill your body with lead). Bad palce to travel. This one was pretty obvious really. Everyone got this.
2) T - Nonni - 22 stations, popular trade system. scananble from the 4th station (mysterious 4) This one was pretty difficult. Nonni has the most systems out of any system in the game tho, hence where the 22 came from.
3) 1 - Mara - M0o's famous gatecamps. Broke up by the DEVs. Many things tweaked (stay cloaked when jumping etc). Again, this one was simple. Most ppl got it
4) 5 - crielere - Gallente + caldari were friends - built t2 (t2 mining laser event). Now they are enemies, forever. Kind of difficult. But the t2 event was quite famous.
5) Q - 32-GI9, stain (eastern stain region - dead end system) Easy.
6) 0 - its in LS-JEP. The closest system to Jove space/Polaris space. My friend Gep is reffering to the system LS-JEP. Difficult one here. I went thru 2 gatecampes on the way to LS-JEP. Only VOID ppl were in local. It seems nobody else got this one first.
7) P - HLW-HP, Curse. Foyle from the old Curse alliance when is disbanded. CA headquarters was in HLW-HP in curse. The "foiled" bit gave it away.
8) 3 - 57XX, pure blind - mordu's legion - (http://www.eve-online.com/background/potw/oct01-01.asp ) Their deployment is fast and with swift results. I hate reading these things. <3 Baz
9) N - Isseras (Todo Kirkinen, the first man to have his mind transferred into a machine) Look through Backstory on the eve-o website for this information.
10) Q - Otitoh. Diamond ace complex, a dangerous place - otitoh Simple really. Again, most people got this one.
11) 3 - Saminer (Above the Vapor Sea (landmark name on map) - two way system. Looks like a mouth on the map. Purple star in Amarr empire - on the map you can select the star colours, this one is purple)
For #6, Heinky went through all the systems in the GEP constallation in Paragon Soul and to the system with the agent called Gep...
For #2 we went to Yulai, Jita and ISS margins before we got it.

This was my guess:
1. You've found an N in HED-GP, RAT gate camp almost got me dammit. Its also the system thats classified as being the most deadly place in game
2. You've found a T in Nonni - 22 stations symbolyzing the 22 trusted men.
3. You've found a 1 in Mara, infamous due to the m0o gate camps early in the game that forced changes to the very game mechanics of EVE.
4. You've found a 5 in Crielere, the site of the combined Caldari and Gallente research efforts that yielded the Cloaking Device and various other goodies, relations broke down shortly afterwards
5. You've found a Q in the 32-GI9 system, dead end system and doesn't appear to have any significance whatsoever.
6
7. You've found a P in HLW-HP, Referring to Foyle, accused of stealing the Mineral reserves of the Curse Alliance, which fell due to internal discord
8. You have found a 3 in 5ZXX-K, Mordu Legion Homesystem, Mercaneries who will do anything for the right price.
9 You have found a N in Isseras. Todo Kirkinen was the first man (scientist) to have his mind transferred into a machine. Thus the explanation of the riddle.
10. You have found a Q in Otitoh, Cosmos constellation. The Diamond Ace den, happy gambling!
11. You've found a 3 in Saminer. 'Truemark Installation' is the unbeatable fortress that Sansha eventually overtook and has been impossible to retake ever since. It's still a sore subject for any Amarrian.
Bazman did most of the work tbh.

1 You might not heed this advice or care do not go into HED itÆs guaranteed that somebodyÆs there to fill your body with lead
2 Twenty-two trustworthy men in a popular traders den mysterious number four opens this magical door
3 Coming and laying their tents causing shouts and creating dents holding their ground for weeks reaching their peaks until the coming of tweaks
4 Once friends once learning now fiends now burning forever
5 Down in Stain there lies a system with one way in it is most eastern
6 Many a travellers dream as hopeless at it may seem a friend of mine named Gep is the closest youÆll ever get
7 She foiled their plan and most of them ran it did not last this empire of the past
8 Fast deployment and swift results theyÆll work for whoever pays a night stalkers honor heavily weighs on the orders he gets and obeyÆs
9 To do is to be to do is me machine I am scientist I am or rather, was
10 A highly dangerous place youÆll find the next clue hidden away close to the diamond ace

I hope you enjoy solving these as much as I enjoyed creating them. Have an excellent Eve-birthday and may all your mining lasers flourish.

Agreed. People who weren't around in the first hour or two didn't stand a chance and a large portion of eve didn't even find out about it until it was already over. Would ahve made more sense to give a time limit of a week on the event and then pick the name of the winner from a hat. The way they did it, it was mostly down to being in the right place at the right time (on the forums when it was announced).

If I didn't know Burn Eden, I'd swear they were planning on spending that isk making their own celebratory event like giving it away as prizes in little competitions and such. If I had just been given a few billion, I guarantee I'd be planning how to give most of it away. When I make isk in eve, I either save it for something I want or give it away to friends who can't afford what they want. I have this one corpmate that I've given the better part of half a billion to over the year or so they've been playing ^^;.

I had hoped you'd get some T2 stabs, now all that is missing is the Burberry texture for the monument.

Good one guys.
I had 7 of the answers correct, and two more which i think you will like, but were drastically wrong.
10 A highly dangerous place youÆll find the next clue hidden away close to the diamond ace
This i beleived was the Mercenary Colition because of the cards that are in thier members sigs, and they have only one system under their soverinty, so i thought it must be there. I thought this was incredibly cool, that the Event would be based around the players choice of sig, sadly i was wrong
This idea was then reasserted by :
8 Fast deployment and swift results theyÆll work for whoever pays a night stalkers honor heavily weighs on the orders he gets and obeyÆs
As the Mercenary Colition.
I also lacked the ability to go to the places i found, sadly, but it was doomed to failure from the start :P
It all went horribly wrong somewhere /o\

Imiarr: Those were some of the first things we looked at.
For the Diamond Ace one, we went to Sarum Prime. HQ of The Corporation (the Ace of Diamonds in the MC banner).
For the other one, Heinky went down to the MC outpost. Luckily he was already in the area scanning every system in the GEP constallation. He also went past 37s-k0 (home of the two Sansha corps) for another one of the questions. On his way back up he also went to ISS Margins to check for #2. I spent most of my time running around empire to various systems.
It was awesome when we were down to the last question (#6). I was in convos with most of the other groups talking to them. Nobody else had #6, one or two other groups had all the rest tho so we were hurrying the whole way. I remember going through BWF on my way to LS-JEP, passing two bubble gatecamps and then running out of instas. I made my way up and we were still researching backstory for the question. We were totally out of ideas. I jumped into LS-JEP and hit scan. A bunch of secure cans came up but no "You have found a ...". I thought we must have been wrong. I double checked my overview settings and found large collidable object wasn't selected. So I scanned again and there it was.
The rest of BE were fighting NFC all day so it was just me and Heinky on our TS. We were literally screaming like a bunch of girls when we got it. I had the email ready to send and quickly typed in the last letter and explanation. I made about 6 spelling mistakes while doing this. But we got it away and waited...... 3 hours later I come back to the pc and there is an email saying we won..... Good times.

I went to bed, woke up and it was over
Of course people whine, its cause your sig sucks

I have to whine a bit on this event...
As you know EVE went 3 years old, why the beep do you host a contest in its honor? Seriously you should have been celebrating that the game turned 3 and that is thanks to every pilot playing the game.
So having a contest, and a very limited one since it was over quite fast imo and not everyone most likely even read about it before it was over.
I think you should have done something that EVERY pilot would have benefited from rather than just two people (the winners) and held this type of event later on.
And no I am not whining just because I didn't win, I am whining because throwing a birthday party where only like 40% of the eve population gets affected is so wrong.
You should have done something in line of the jove parts, or snowballs for the 3 year anneversery, not this!

Edited by: Smagd on 08/05/2006 08:36:54 Sigma, and
Congratulations to the lucky winners!
Also, nice event LeMonde. I agree for a 3rd birthday something about the history of EvE is appropriate.
To those who - like me - thought they wouldn't stand a chance to win it (HED-GP, oh really, sorry count me out, hehe): Don't be a sore loser. There's gonna be more chances to stand out, and besides, who wants a WCS T2 anyway!?
Edit for clarity: Besides: You try to create a good competition that's the same difficulty for all players. It's damn hard.
Fly far,
Smagd
PS: Damn, I got one more reason to avoid Jita now...

So we arent even gonna get and answers for the riddles, ok i missed the competition didnt know it had happened till the next day.
I'm still intrested too know the answers behind the riddles i can figure myself. Been playing a while now and i wish i'd had time to take part. maybe next year can we have a competition that lasts 24h+
I know i wont win next year either, havent picked up enough history of eve, anyone care to teach me a bit of the history.
But yeah bigger longer competion next time guys. Maybe with several areas rather than just a bunch of ridles or even 4 competitions as the next one will be celebrating 4 years

Ye good on you, guess i'll go back to respecting you a little more like when Xetic died and the first war dec came.(or when ever it was)
As for the rest of your Corp... interdictor ftw!!!
