In fleet combat, which ship is considered better, the Armageddon or the Megathron? Note I did not specify which weapons these ships should use, that it kinda the point of my post.
Also, for lvl 4 missions, which of those 2 ships is better? And don't say Raven lol.

For PVE/Missions, It depend of the NPC you fight. Guristas and serpentis are more vulnerable to kin/therm damage, while cristals are more convenient for the rest.
For fleet battles, i'd say Megathrons all the way, because: - using their T2 ammos is a hell of a lot cheaper and less risky, should you lose the ship. - Most sniping setups include armor plates and/or a limited number of armor hardeners, and radio lenses are a joke against that.

Well, big battles I've been in, most bs go down in 1-2 volleys. So on average 40 ammo in 425 rails is good for say 30 targets. Which is not how many you get to shoot at during the fight. Also people warp in and out when lit up as primary, and thats a lot of time to reload. So "reload issue" was never an issue for me personally.
If your fleet is roaming, which it is like most of the time, you probably have mwd fitted, which leaves 2 mid slots on geddon, and 3 on megathron.
So say you put one sensor booster and one tracking comp on both ships. For shorter range fights, mega can fit 1 ew module. Or for longer, an extra sensor booster, or extra tracking comp. It adds up, that extra mid slot is good thing to have.
If you compare ship for ship, megathron with 1 tracking disruptor is better vs geddon with none, all other things being equal.
As for cost, its a moot point, ship price alone is both covered by insurance cost, so you are not talking 60 vs 90+ mil, but the diff in insurance costs, which is significantly less. The real cost of losing ship is stuff not covered by insurance, such as t2/faction mods you may or may not have, and if both ships are t2 fitted, its about the same.

Ship price is interesting, I had neevr thought of only comparing the insurance and I do admit it's true.
So supposing a Mega goes for 100 mil and an Armageddon for 60.
You buy Mega for 100 Full insurance costs 36.75 mil and gives 105 back. So you lose 31.75 mil.
You buy Armageddon for 60 Full insurance costs 23.2 and pays 66.25 So you lose 17 mil (rounded)
Mega still loses around double, however you have less money on ammo equipped on your ship at all times. Still, in the end, money isn't that much of an issue. I can always do lvl 4 missions to pay what I lost (any1 say jumpclone empire mission runner?)
So money apart, I see there are replies for both sides...

You will never find yourself **** out of ammo with an arma, you can also pound at stations as long as you have cap. ----

Compared to the Apocalypse, the Armageddon is relatively awful for running level 4 missions.

l4 missions, the Arma owns both of apoc & mega. Why? Faction kit.
Throw a sleek faction setup on it and it does way, way more damage and has a decent tank.
For just a cheap t2 fitting the Mega is gonna probly be better. But no ammo is also nice. -------------------------------------------- "A plan is just a list of things that don't happen." -- Parker, _The Way of the Gun_

If you can't use T2 Arma won't do it in fleet, range is too small. If you can use t2 Arma is an ok choice in fleet, but those 30-50km extra range on the megathron are still nice even though the megathron does about 10% less burst damage.

Actually, full insurance for a Mega is 31.5mil unless I remember completely wrong. But yeah, still cheaper to lose an Armageddon.

Don't forget that build costs for mega are around 92 mil and for geddon around 55 mil, so that lessens the difference between the two if you build them rather than buying them off market.

The megathron is usually preferred for its high range in fleet combat, but it all depends on what tactics are used by your FC. The extra range won't do you much good if you warp in at <100km.
I haven't used either for PvE, so no comment. --------------------------------------------- I hear Linux can cure cancer and raise your sperm count. - Dionysus Davinci
