Hello all! Loving EVE so far but would like to know about what direction I can go in. Basically besides pirating/mining/trading what else is there to do. I know you can do just about everything....but what really is everything? What do you guys do for a "living" in EVE?

Most of my time in Eve is spent mining, mission running and ratting. I don't have the combat skills for any decent PVP (1 on 1 variety that is), so I keep clear of that for now.
I started out as a miner and can earn a decent income from mining in highsec using a barge. I now also manufacture ships and sell them quite frequently.
I get some income from missions when I start to get bored with shooting at rocks all day but not a lot since my skills still restrict me to lvl2 missions for now. Sometimes I sneak through the camps into lowsec and go ratting there in a cheap ship for a bit of fun.
The general idea is to pick a trade and see if it will fit into the game. If it's something that hasn't already been done, it could make you a fortune. Although it's unlikely that someone hasn't already thought of it before but again, new faces bring new ideas and all that so you could strike lucky. You should never be restricted to what others are doing and follow their example, you'll still get where you want but it could take a long time because the competition is already there.
The game is here for you to play the way you want to play, there are no rules as such any more than there are in real life. Play for fun, Roleplay or just kill anything that moves, it's your choice. You can be carebear or a pirate, it's up to you to decide the fate of your character.

I guess I'm just used to a structured grind/game....refreshing yet daunting at the scope of what EVE has to offer. IMHO a great idea.

Well I am on a quest to conquer the galaxy...
eve is only the backdrop and not the game...
the "players" are the game...
you can do what ever you like in eve...seriously.
