If anyone else here's played the original Homeworld game......Am I the only one who think the Amarr Avatar looks like the Kadeshi mothership?

And then, of course, I can't ever look at a mammoth without being reminded of the Vaygr Heavy Missile Frigate from HW2.

Neat I guess... But so what?
They look alike. People get inspiration from all over the place. Are you just trying to discredit EVE for being unoriginal, or are you simply trying to point this out like it is important?

Eve ships are original though...
I can't think of any other space-flight game I've ever played with a ship shaped like a *****.

The Avatar has about as many simlilarities with that Kadeshi mothership as it does with a pepsi bottle. - _____

Nah, just a little bored, plus Homeworld was my absolute favorite RTS of all time, so I may see things relating to it. Just pointing stuff out. Sig removed, please keep it below 24000 bytes, email [email protected] if you have any questions - Xorus |

I pointed it out months ago, they aren't exact replicas, but you'd to have pretty bad sight not to notice the stratling similarities. Frankly though, half of the ships in the bloody game resemble Homeworld ships. "Hobbes, she stepped into the Perimter Of Wisdom.Run!" |

Edited by: Pothead Eve on 07/05/2006 08:14:12 eve is the only space game i ever played i can name 3 or more ships that look somehow like a p3n15. and about 5 with alot worse shapes.... oh, and there is that single race that uses a bong (pipe to smoke canabis in) rotated for 90 degrees for traveling space... its eve, the universe of impossibilitys

Edited by: Gats on 07/05/2006 08:21:31 I have to agree that several things in eve remind me of Homeworld ,for ex the minmater dreadnough Naglfar has the same shape as the hiigaran mothership from homeworld .
Also when you look at ship types you find simularities with homeworld but you cant make a game like eve with all the diffrent races and shiptypes without the chance of getting a design that looks like something thats been created before . Its normal that a shipdesigner gets influenced by hes envoirment , you could easely find simularities in ships from the tv serie star trek . Anyways the thing im trying to say is that everyone gets his inspiration from somewhere , some from tv other from games and some even from simple objects or shapes .
btw , wasnt homeworld the first spacegame with 3d coordination and mapping ?

If anything, the Amarr titan looks exactly like the Nkllon shield ships from Star Wars. The Avatar's base is just a lot thicker.

Edited by: DJTheBaron on 07/05/2006 09:09:26 design is a bit like music, its mostly been done before you just gotta use your inspiration and improve on the past
sad i know but isnt there some star trek starbase that is shaped like the amar titian too, i remember scotty ****ing or putting rice in the other ships fuel tank on that one
then again i've seen lamps shaped like that, and if u want to be pickey those garden gas heaters look that shape too, or omg an umbrella __________________________________________________

why are so many people defensive? There's absolutely nothing wrong with the ships bering similarities to the homeworld ships, they all look equally good.

It's also why I play to this day, as well. The Avatar does remind me of a Needle mothership, but obviously with a much thicker "stalk".
And from the description of the Naglfar:
Quote: The Naglfar is based on a Matari design believed to date back to the earliest annals of antiquity. While the exact evolution of memes informing its figure is unclear, the same distinctive vertical monolith form has shown up time and time again in the wind-scattered remnants of Matari legend.

I thought that a bit too. Me and a corp buddy play some HW2 on the side, and on occassion I've caught myself wondering why my battlecruisers aren't running their shield boosters.

Problem is that there are so many sci-fi sources out there now [movies\comics\games]. That you are bound to find similaritys now. Whats important is that the modelslook good and fit in with the game universe.

Homeworld is IMO the best RTS game of all time.
EVE combat is probably more similar to Homeworld than any other game, as its not a flight sim nor a "fighter sim" like Freespace.

The hiigaran mothership is a direct rip-off of the B-Wing from Star Wars, sans the horizontal stabilizer wings....how far back are going to trace the giant wing design?
