This is a question for the devs. I'm curious roughly how much ISK is distributed in the eve-verse. I know it must constantly be changing.
Also how much is lost each day through ISK sinks? Like taxes, insurance, and clones? -=Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds=- |

Edited by: Jacobz on 07/05/2006 17:12:57 100-150 trillion seems like a better estimate. Billionaires is not the norm but a growing proportion in 0.0 + all the corp-alliance money. Im saying this because I know a couple of 50+ billion fortunes people and I'm sure I don't know everyone :)

Insurance is not an isk sink. In fact, it is quite the opposite

You don't make money on insurance, therefor it's an ISK sink, especially when it runs out and you haven't blown up your ship.
This is why I don't normally insure. -=Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds=- |

from the point of view of the whole economy it is NOT an isk sink. if you buy the ship ISK is just handed over to someone else. no isk generated. if the ship blows up you get isk from an npc. therefore, new money flows in the economy.
EDIT: yes, if insurance expires its an isk sink... that, however, doesnt fit in the idea of insurance

It fits the exact idea of insurance.
You pay ISK to insure that you are compensated if your ship is blown in a time period. If your ship doesn't blow up you don't get that isk back.
You pay money for term life insurance and you don't die in that term you, nor your family, will get that money.
Insurance is a scam RL and ingame. It's to protect(READ: take advantage of) people who are too short sighted to provide for themself. -=Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds=- |

Nah, I was just proving a point, most posts giving any figures here are just uneducated guesses. Meaning people take numbers from nothing and post them, which doesn't really serve any purpose. If someone would post their reasoning it would probably be a guess at best, maybe an educated guess. But I doubt it, considering they would at least need a lot of statistics only available to CCP. And if you had access to those statistics, you'd probably know more exactly anyway.

That's why the question was directed at the Devs and not players. The reason I posted it here is so dialogue may also go with it and the information(if supplied) be available to all.
But unsurprisingly players felt like guessing anyways. -=Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds=- |

The truth is that the monetary base is truly limitless. If given the correct data, one could extrapolate how much ISK is in circulation at any given second in EVE, however, that amount would change from one moment to the next. Recall that while money is invested in assets and sitting in wallets, there is a steady stream of new ISK being put on the market through pirate respawns and mission bounties. Combine that with an ever-fluctuating in-game population going about their economic business and there is absolutely no possible way of knowing how much ISK is in circulation. _______________________ ...Greetings, Starfighter. It's pretty simple, do a sum of all personal and corp wallets.
That doesn't give you any idea of assets, but that's not what I was asking.
Of course that sum will only be acurate for the moment that it is queried, but that's close enough for me.
Everything in EVE is tracked in a database, pretty easy, Dev's willing, to get said info.

Wouldnt say alot i think. Money is pretty worthless in the wallet... they need to be invested in assets to grow.
At this point in time, i have only 7% of my money in the wallet.

Lots of 0.0/low sec PVP corps will mine enough materials and then make their T1 ships. Then they corp insure the ships, so when they get blown up in PVP, the corp gets ISK. Aside from the small initial insurance gain, there is only ISK gain in that process.

Lets see. 3 years of Eve, First year probably circulated some 100 billion isk, 2nd year and expansion, 100* 100 billion (or 10Trillion, 3rd Year, 200* 5 Trillion + the inclusion of T2 items (1 billion * 100,000 or 100,000,000,000,000,000). Add that to the 1,000,000,000,000 distributed outside T2 items.. and you have about 100,001,000,000,000,000.
A bit over 100,000 Trillion isk has been created/spend/and/or circulated in Eve, considering some 1000+ galaxies, insurance costs, ship building, Outposts, wars, mining, fights against pirates, loot, time spent, trading, etc etc.

Dont forget, the market doesnt create ISK at all, these things (for example) create/destroy ISK.
CREATE: - Killing a NPC or PC with a bounty. - Insurance Payout - NPC Buy Orders
DESTROY: - Paying Insurance - Repairing Ships - NPC Sell orders (especially, I should suppose, BPOs) -- Interseted in skills? Necessary Skills

There is currently 392,834,453,353,142 ISK total in player accounts in EVE, including corp wallets.
There is also a Veld roid the size of a planet in a dead-end highsec system about 9 jumps from kisago, which you go through 2 lowsec systems to reach (gee I wonder why local there is always 0 ).
One of the two statemesnts I gave is true. The other is partially true.

I'm always curious about this, including the Eve economy as a whole.
I have no doubt that this is an every expanding economy, although I'm also fairly sure that this game is fairly unique in that there is the ability to actually make the isk flow shrink. Given heavy periods of war I do wonder if the Eve economy actually suffers.
I also wonder if anyone has ever asked CCP to study the Eve economy. Some economists / university researchers would be very interested. A small self composed economic system working with detailed supporting data, I know if I was still studying Economics I would love to review the last three year's data!

I know that the english way of expressing quantities is: million 1.000.000 billion 1.000.000.000 trillion 1.000.000.000.000
But in some other languages (i.e. spanish) the quantities are: million 1.000.000 thousand millions 1.000.000.000 billion 1.000.000.000.000 thousand billions 1.000.000.000.000.000 trillion 1.000.000.000.000.000.000
In other words, for some a billion is a million of millions, and a trillion is a million of billions. More info here in the Wikipedia.

200k subscribers(might be an old figure?) * 1billion isk per person(low average) = 200 trillion isk!
Also going by timecard prices 100mill isk = $15 Therefore the EVE economy is worth around $30,000,000 ................. |

Indeed. That wikipedia side about 'long scale' and 'short scale' explains it. And it is rly confusing as a big part of the playerbase comes from countries using the 'long scale' while EVE with english as language then use the 'short scale'.
On the topic, this would have to depend on if you mean 'value of all assets' or 'isk'.

Thats actually wrong. Maximum amount of ISK is the number of characters created multiplied by the maximum amount of ISK you can have in the wallet, added to the maximum number of rats/npcs of value and their individual reward, added to the total amount of all mission bounties in the game, added to the amount of ISK offered by NPC market buyers for every item in every station in the game, and so on...there are a million other ways to compound the maximum amount of ISK eve can have in circulation, ergo, the thread is unanswerable. _______________________ ...Greetings, Starfighter. I see your point. That is ISK coming from nowhere essentially. Makes a good case for player run insurance with contracts. Which does fit this thread. But the thing you are not taking into consideration is that the minerals for that ship were essentially bought by CCP for a very discounted rate. That and 40m is BS and higher(don't get the newbie's hopes up).
I'm not looking for an exact number, maybe just 2 or 3 signifigant digits. -=Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds=- |

You pay ISK to insure that you are compensated if your ship is blown in a time period. If your ship doesn't blow up you don't get that isk back.
You pay money for term life insurance and if you don't die in that term you, nor your family, will get that money.
Insurance is a scam RL and ingame. It's to protect(READ: take advantage of) people who are too short sighted to provide for themself.
Set your corp up right and pvp a lot and you do indeed make manoy not take a loss.

I'd Have to go with the 200k (players) * 1bil = 200Tril Estimate as well. There's a ton of newbies (like Myself) who haven't seen 100mil yet, but on the otherhand, there's also a ton of people who have multi-billions in their personal wallet, as well as corps with thens of billions to spare, And just imagine how much a corp like Goonfleet/waffe has from taxes alone, Or an alliance like BoB.
Has anyone tried contacting the HAC cortel? Just take what they have handy, Multiply by 5, and you should get about the average....
Remember! 50.3% of all percentiles are made up!*

More on topic (wild guessing thread?) I'd say many trillions. I bet everyone I personally know in game have more than one trillion in isk, so its got to be quite a bit more than that. --- Our greatest glory is not in never failing, but in rising up every time we fail. - Emerson |

Life begins @ 1,000,000,000 Iskies... There's a lot of us billionares out there.
I'd guess that total wealth in EVE would be in the 50-100 trillion mark pretty easily. And I'm not counting things like stations and what not... Don't mind me... I'm just a pigment of your imagination. |

I for one think it is alot less than the average postings have stated.
You have to remember that the billions that are made are passed around to make other people billionaires. So money was neither made nor destroyed.
I would prolly bet that it is around 30 trillion or less. The amount of true billions, talking isk in wallet at all times is a small portion of the eve economy.
I would easily state that %50-60 of eve accounts hold 200m or less each. About %20-30 hold between 200m-2b. And %10 hold 2b+ at all times.
That sounds a bit more reasonable. And the economic inflation grows everday.

i dont get why some people are saying not counting assets or the only sencible money is invested where it doesnt devalue,
for a start assets was not a stipulation in the question, How much ISK is there in Eve? because there are 2 seperate wealth trees ISK and mineral, ISK is difficult to destroy minerals are not. sure the two are exchangable you can mine a vast quantity of minerals and thus have in potentia isk wealth but there creation use and ultimate fate are wildly different.
as for investing the only time invested money leaves the game is by purchase off the NPC market not off the player market, investing in say a vulture or 10 because you feel the price will rise is an irrelevent point in this context, sure YOU no longer posess the ISK but someone does and thus it is countable. All the ISK in eve cannot be invested in items off the NPC market, its simply not sustainable whats the point in there being 40000 Titan BPOs safely invested in? someone somewhere will have to sit on ISK reserves

You can consider characters as assets, each worth at least 100 mil for every 1mil of skillpoints you have. With that in mind, a lot more people can be considered billionaires. --------------- VIP member of the [23]

Since the average "age" of a player is 7 months, I think 1b per player is quite a nice average. Of course they probably hold much more in assets, but 1b in isk sounds about right for the average 7 month-old character/player.
So, 100,000 billion or so isk, which I'm guesstimating to be correct within an order of a magnitude.
Would really love to hear dev chime in on this.

That number is out of date, the average is now 12.9 months. Here is the post
