I invite all CSM 9 candidates to tell me the number of hours they spent in the last month leaning on a mining laser F1 button. Also, some indication of the percentage of their time spent mining.
I will try and keep a summary in the post.
Everyone else, please do not clutter up this thread. |

I haven't mined since 2007. I've always played games with a focus on PvP. The industrial (or crafting)/harvesting side of games never appealed to me, but I recognize the importance of those who do, and the importance of improving their game play where possible. My CSM Thread My Blog @wsethbrown |

Probably between 2-5 hours, Gas mining mostly but some rock crunching too. Mining is quite profitable in W-Space so we tend to do it often. As a manufacturer of Capital Weapons and Ammunition in Amarr Highsec, I'd confess that I do occassionally undock a barge and grind some rocks on my alt 'Telal Xul' of Mar Sarrim while chatting with people or listening to whatever. It's quiet, honestly a bit boring and also helps me fall asleep. So I'd say in the past month I've only done this for a total of maybe, maybe a couple hours.
Hopes this answer your question.

So at the moment I do a little bit of gas mining in wormholes, not alot as i make isk other ways so tend to leave the gas for people who do need it in allaince.
I did ice mining in hisec a year or so ago on 3 or 4 guys. mainly cos I could do thatin the back ground while surfing the net.
Ore mining I haven't done since i first moved in to wormhole space and I mined with a probe and then a retriever for a couple month.
So probably 1 to 2 hours gas mining in the last month. Corbexx for CSM 9 - Wormholes deserve better |

In the last month? Zero. In the last ever? Zero.
Although I did do gas mining in WHs a couple times when the venture came out...
Anyway, if you're looking for a candidate to vote for, vote Steve. He's industry, highsec, and does a lot of good work with third party tools.

This past month, none.
I did start life as a highsec miner, and have mined in both high and null sec space. That said, my more usual day-to-day solo activity is enriching miners by losing spaceships, and if I'm looking for something more mindless, it's often space truckin' on the jump freighter character. http://warp-to-sun.tumblr.com -- my blog |

Last month was about 10-12 hours. (probably more but I give the lowball) Skiff mainly though I did some venture as well.
When I am in game but talking more than flying I mine. If I am on a podcast I often mine.
I don't scan, though I should. I just pick the nicest looking rock and do it.
Do I know mining? Some, haven't been part of a minning op in years, I am a solo miner. But if you look at the drone thread you will see I am the guy, Fozzie says, that had them go back and fix mining drones.
kinda proud of that

Around 40-50 hours worth, with 3 characters. 2 miners varying, between Skiffs, mackinaws and ventures (for gas) and 1 orca boosting and hauling. It's higher than normal, but it's not uncommon for me to haul out my miners.
It's generally been in L4 mining missions (working up standings for a couple of characters, so I can see about possibly relocating my pos to a 0.7 systemm as well at the tax breaks. The LP is nice for the refining implants)
Other than that, I do little in the way of belt mining, tending to hit ore anomalies when I see juicy ones pop up. Sometimes stripping out the ore other people didn't cherry pick (Omber, how I hate thee. I want the Jaspet) in the hopes of seeing it respawn with the decent ores nearby.
(in case you haven't noticed, I've got suggestions on how to update the meta around mining, involving the removal of static respawning belts, and the addition of a prospecting mechanism which spawns sites of varying qualities, which can then be claimed. people can claim jump them, if they want to, but will go suspect, or the corp might get a kill right on them.) I have not mined for a considerable amount of time, not even on alts that were at one stage specialised highly in that direction. I'd say around 5 years now since I last mined.
I found mining to be a pretty boring & trivial exercise once you mastered the skills needed, got the obligatory hauler alt, and the boost alt - or at least willing friends. More so once you perfect the art of getting people to mine for you. RvB Ganked: EVE's Number One Public Roam |

In the last month since running for CSM? Two hours picking up some minerals to finish off a flight of fighters I was cooking. Another three when I went to review the tutorials.
I gas mine booster gas in the available region my corporation is deployed to. I always have a gas mining venture in my deployment stack.
Last year I mined and built an Orca just because I wanted to. However, since ore anomalies no longer need to be scanned down I tend only to mine in low sec in snatch and grab situations. I used to do those ore anomalies in a Mackinaw. I still have several low sec Mackinaws and Retrievers from that time. My main industrial alt can fly Rorquals but I have no need to buy one.
Currently, it is more effective for me to buy minerals in high sec and ship them to low to build hulls or do compression for my capitals than it is for me to mine in low sec for the quantity of Ore I need for my production lines. That type of situation is one IGÇÖd like to change and why IGÇÖm thinking up ways to increase viability of tasks such as mining in low sec. On my main or giving it the alt? If you ask about me personally no time. If you ask about my alt well I chewed on some spicey Veldspar for maximized Tritanium needed for building a ship. Not to worry, just cause I mined the ore myself I don't classify it as free. |

The following candidates have admitted to actually mining recently. Most of them have only done a bit of mining. Steve Ronuken is the only one who seems to be an highly active miner with Mike Azariah coming second. All the others mentioned below are basically casual miners.

I agree that miners (in general) don't run for CSM.
Judging by the distribution of the candidates, mining is clearly of minor concern to this games leadership. |

Which is very shortsighted. Where do they think their ships come from? Chribba is not the Veldspar fairy bestowing raw materials on people who leave a pod under their pillows. There are no 800mm ammo trees to harvest.
For all the hate that miners get in this game a LOT of people forget that it is one of the foundations of our play.

I licked myself over the lips, contemplating about pushing F1 to harvest some minerals. I found myself frustrated and also rigid, my firm finger could not push down the button. I slapped myself over the head of my shishkebab, then i took up my shishkebab and threw it on the keyboard. Alas several keys were pressed and i got disconnected from the matrix. When i logged in, i had harvested 113 pieces of Kernite. I was timidly proud of myself and wondered what would happen if i harvested 113 pieces more.
This year i spent 13 seconds mining, they were the most horrifying seconds of my life. I still tremble when i contemplate this misfortune and how it has damned me. |
