I am a Brutor who is just finishing up with my learning skills, and I am trying to decide which tree to go down. I am into cruiser as a minnie, but I am tempted to go Caldari or Gallente as projectiles seem to be a bit weak when doing missions compared to missles and drones of other pilots in my corp with similar or low skills.

Do you like missiles or drones more? Well caldari ships all get bonuses to missiles. Only certain gallente ships cet bonuses to drones. So unless you want to go dominix, eos, or vexor, choose caldari.

stay with minmatar. Projectiles are anything but weak. They do multiple damage types, use next to 0 capacitor, and have very high damage modifiers fo ratillery and very high falloff for autos. Also train missiles up so you can use them.
minmatar is very powerful, never underestimate a ship that can wreck you for over 2000 damage with one gun.

when you want to make missions (pve) go for caldari ships (missiles).
when you want to make pvp, take that ships/weapons what do you like. the minmatar are one of the hardest races, because they can/must shield or armor tank, because they use drones, weapons and missiles.
the caldari/gallente are in the middle. caldari are missiles and hybrid user and shield tanks. gallente are drones and hybrid user and armor tank.
the fastest spezialisation you will get with amarr, they are laser user and armor tanks.
those spezialisations are when you want to use all the ships from one race.

The minnie ships may be ok, but it is looking like they req a lot of skills to be effective, and i am looking at doing a lot of PvE for the near future. so far it seems like my PvE is done by my drones and missles, and occasionally by my arty/ac. Caldari and gallente ships seem much better at PvE than my minnie ships. Much easier to put a tank up and still deal damage. And the skills i train for those ships will transfer over to my minnie ships if and when I go back to them (Missle and drone skills). That is also why I wouldn't go Amarr if I switch. Right now I am leaning towards Gallente, because my industry alt is an Intaki and I would be able to tranfers ships back and forth if needed. But, is it worth the time it takes to go to another race of ships, or should i just tough it out and stay minnie?

Well if your looking at gallente for blasters stick with auto-cannons . Remember unless your in a domi or vexor your drones with do the same dmg as everyone else, and i think a few minmatar ships have decent drones bays.

Stick with minmatar, their guns can do any damage type - and that's important in pvp *and* pvp. Projectiles are probably the best guns when it comes to PVE for the dmg type reason.

Not all Caldari ships get bonuses. the only top-tier ships that use missiles are the Kestrel(a merlin can probably beat one somehow) and Raven(for now), and the Teir2 BC when it comes out.
The Cerb too if you count T2. Nighthawk just uh... sucks for dps period.

After tuxford's changes they will use EXACTLY 0 capacitor.
The very high damage mods to artillery are countered by their painfully slow refire rates. Variable damagetypes and near-zilch cap use on projectiles give you a lot of leeway in how you want to use your cap though.
Since minnies have balanced slots, you need to train a lot of skills, but they can be quite versatile, though from what I hear caldari are better for missions. ________________________________________________
