Due to Oveur and I attending E3 this year, updates from the two of us will be coming with a reduced frequency. While we will be attempting to grab spare moments to hit the forums, read e-mail and the like, I cannot promise news, information or posts will come with the frequency of the past.
Next week will see some days catching up to the missed work load and a hopeful return with pictures, videos, information and an E3 recap. I'm bringing my laptop and camera in an attempt to keep some sort of Developer's Diary of the events. Sounds like a running Dev Blog might be an idea. Thoughts?

*EDIT* I really shouldn't be as proud of this as I am. Anyways, I'm glad to see CCP spreading the EVE love over here in the US. Eve doesn't get nearly the respect that it deserves over here (imo, of course  )

They were at E3 right after launch ... I know because I would lurk around the CCP booth then at night play eve in the hotel room. I even blew off a day at E3 to just play.
But you are right it is good to see them get more U.S. press.

I think they managed to get into West Hall somehow in 2002, but I don't know about 2003. Those were lean, rough times...
I don't think EVE's ever known the disgrace of Kentia, though.

I been checkin on the e3insider website and I see no mention of CCP being an exhibitor there? I saw the floormap showing CCP having a booth, is it just too early to get any info?

They're in the west hall surrounded by Canada, Funcom, and Gameloft. Same hall as Sony and Nintendo, which should be good for traffic.

We're in the corner and our 2 story booth offers a clear view of this hall which is the same hall as Sony and Nintendo. I'm sure there will be incriminating pictures of Oveur and I passed out under a table at the SPACEBAR in the upstairs of our booth. Oveur has Electric Six - *** Bar blasting at 90db over the show floor.

Well its has 3 meanings atm:
1) Space Bar. A bar in space. Considering Eve is a space game, you can do the math.
2) A really bad pun. think spacebar, as in the big rectangular button on your keyboard.
3) A play on the song "*** Bar" by Electric Six.

I guess it's purely subjective.
I disagree - the ships don't seem as "2D" anymore and fit in a lot better with the surroundings. The light sourcing shows up a hell of a lot more with the normal/spec maps in place. Very much improved, but that's just my subjective opinion.
I must however have Rifter shots.

Purely guessing here, but i'd say that every model in the game is gonig to be redone. You cannot really have new models/textures with the old ones. It just doesn't look right.

I really like the texturing job. One thing I notice is that there are lots of 'windows' on the ships that don't all align to a common plane - like different decks might have the artificial gravity pointed in a different direction. Nice touch. Also, just finally adding all those windows really makes the scale of the battleships go way up.
Does anyone think the Apocalypse model looks woefully under equipped in the propulsion department (always has)?
Is the graphics engine update (for trinity or vista) still going to tint the colors on our ships from the different colored stars? I always though that was a nice little detail, but I can't tell from those release shots.
Will the turret models (and launcher models added pretty-please) get updated as well? What about how T2 ships will look.. OMG so many questions... 
Can't wait for more E3 info to come out!

OK I'm probably gonna catch hell for the following comments but here goes. I don't really like the new textures on any of the ships I've seen so far. To me the color is way to over saturated and the contrast is way to harsh. In fact any more contrast would result in a toon shader look to me. If you want to get a more realistic look to these ships which I'm guessing is the goal then desaturate the color a bit and I'm sure these ships will have more of a realistic look. If realism isn't the goal and your tring to achieve a more stylized look then your on the right track. As for the Scorp please please please tell me that's an early WIP. It lacks any character what so ever. It looks more like a toy than a massive battleship. With that said I'll back to my hole and hide once more....

I <3 CCP. Graphics updates look nice, but I hope it's not limited to just models such as ships/starbases/etc. I noticed planets and solar system art looked the same, and that makes baby Jesus cry.

Well, actually i'm bit dissapointed with this pics. It's great that there are no more rust on caldari ships (rust in vacuum omgwtf...) but... look at apocalypse. Current model have much more style! This ship must represent majesty of teh empire! And new screen looks like random pieces of shiny tin covering conglomeration of junk with randomly placed windows. Hey! This is not minmartar ship, u know? I asked some of my friends and co-workers (not players of EVE, just sci-fi fans:) wich one they like most. And all of them considered that old one is more gracefull.
May be it's better not to think too much of better dx10 tech, and new shiny poligons rather than do better art-work?

Something I noticed in the trailer (which bothered me). I know its a video, but even the dev's machines seem to lose some framerate.
I'd love to know how they did those angles (cause I'd like to shoot video with angles like that).
Also. What kind of monitor was used (and what was the resolution)?

The new trailer is pretty nice. With all thew new refurbished ships and all.
The sound however is horrible. The audio engineer who mixed it should be publicly flogged and then sacked from his job. And the music doesn't even compare to the score Junkie XL came up with. Thats a huge dissapointment IMHO.

I've 80% confident that the person who did the audio was RealX, who did all of the music in EVE (sound effects as well?). It just sounds like his style, might be wrong though.
Curious what other people think of the trailer featuring mostly the titans, carriers with their fighters, and ridiculously over-sped battleships? The vid had some nice action, and very nice effects, but I don't think its quite representative of actual game-play. I've played the game for over two years now, and I even would expect EVE to use the ever dreaded 'joystick' after seeing that.
I think it would be interesting to see a promotional video capturing a fleet battle, with a close-up perspective that weaves its way through the battle lines.

Honestly? It's not that impressive. I mean it's okay. It just doesn't give the same sense of awe that previous ones did. The editing could be better. The music is a very poor choice IMHO and sounds horrible. And it seems a bit choppy in places. Don't get me wrong. I don't hate it. It just doesn't do much for me.
Sorry. Just my honest opinion. 
Oh, and the Scorpion is backwards.

The new eve vid was kinda funny imho, especially the part with the speedy ravens, rotflmao, everyone and his dog knows how painfully slow eve can be, especially bs's.
Besides the deceptive illusion of speed it was a good vid, nice to see ships I haven't seen before in the game and the superweapons.

You know all low slots with local hull overdrives, and the best MWD there is... also doubling the speed of the video playback helped as well I'm sure...
The vis is great, shame about that "noise" that is the sound track - but then again I'm on a crappy ac'97 sound card that does not know what bass or treble is when it comes to sound...

From the media/press and others visiting your booth, what kind of common questions are they asking about CCP and EVE? What seems to be the general opinion or interest of EVE from the mass people at your booth? From the way things are going, do you think that CCP and EVE's presentations at E3 will increase the hype any? It better. All of the media is missing out on what a great and successful MMO EVE is

(another source of income for the tradeshow) We've got models at the front of our booth who are filtering members of the press from people who just want to "kick the tires". They are wearing EVE gear, not g-strings. Well they could be wearing g-strings, just under their pants

I'm having way too much fun here, but I will take a minute to quickly spill some beans on what I've learned. Sorry if its mentioned already, but the wireless is VEEEEERY SLOOOOW, and I keep timing out trying to read this entire thread.
Anyhow, heres the highlights
1. "Temporary" Implants to boost skills, such as combat, available through COSMOS
2. 8 New ships, T3 Battleship and T2 BattleCruisers
3. Major upgrade to ship skins! The 'new' Scorpian was noticably different, and better. All Stations also getting a better look.
4.) Direct X 10 graphic upgrade also going to be available.
As always, these upgrades are free! Second, You aren't going to be forced to upgrade.
5.) Last, and best of all, integrated Voice Chat by Vivox.

I have someone here in the room that actually did try it out! He's more of a voicechat buff than I am, which helps out a load!
I'm about to pass out asleep, but heres the tidbit I have pre-edit. "...integration of an in-game voice-chat provided by and through Vivox; the Eve servers will not bear the load of the communications traffic, which could result in in-game lag. Options to customize ōpushing the talkö or open channel with full broadcast, and voice level activation will be available. Administrative control is given to the channel creator, with wide variety of control over who can talk, and when based on their position in the corporation. "

Well since Yblarbo spilled the beans about the voice-chat I guess I will add my impression from when I was there today: it fricking r0cks!
I got to demo it with one of the Vivox reps there who had the eve client running and a chat going with someone in Boston(as in, the other side of the US). I frankly couldn't believe the audio quality. The rep in Boston said she was on an IBM thinkpad with a $10 mic. Even if she really did have killer hardware the system is impressive. There was a bit of a lag in terms of how long it took to hear her response to something I asked but she just might have been responding slowly :-)
The real money part is what has already been said, it is integrated right into the EVE client! No more need for an external program like teamspeak OR a server to host it on. The best part is it works off the existing chat channel system so all you have to do is right-click on a chat window and you get an option to "Join Voice" and you are connected to everyone in that channel who is doing the same. It indicates who is speaking and you can do things like mute them if need be. The rep said that in gang situations the gang leader had the ability to do things like mute everyone so they could be heard and such. Pure money baby!

As for the rest of the happenings at the booth, I watched the new graphics in action, I have to say again I was very impressed. The screenshots of the new ships don't do them justice. Obviously it is a subjective thing but I would say don't pass judgement on the look of the new ships until you see them "in person." Also, I had noticed the lag in the vid that was mentioned as well but everything I saw was running smooth as silk.
Beyond that I didn't see a whole lot else of the booth because I was busy having a nice long conversation with Oveur about Eve, CCP, and the MMO landscape. It was insightful and by far the best part of my visit.
That was pretty much my impression, I did notice that everyone was wearing black and that was the predominant color of the booth, was very nice. Maybe I will get some pictures tomorrow.
Oh yeah, and for those of you wondering where the coverage is from gaming sites, keep in mind that most E3 coverage is reserved for NEW games and game-related things. While the new features and such are new to the game, the game itself is not new which is mostly why this is happening. However, I did see the following POST pop up on the major game-info blog Joystiq.

Its a good thing they are handing out fines to developers/publishers that overuse lightly dressed hot chicks. Because then the journalists will pay more attention to the games and rate the impressions accordingly.
Kind of hard to be critical when you got a bleached, blonde bimbo in a bikini smiling at you while wearing a minimalistic bikini-ish outfit.

This has been mentioned before, but why isnt CCP listed on the official E3 insider?
I think the devs needs to spend some time in the space bar then head out and plunder and pillage the other booths while calling people n00bs, carebears and stab*****s.

As someone who works and PR and has experience in helping clients get the most out of exhibitions I would guess that the reason they are not listed is because CCP did not fill out all the necessary marketing forms in advance of the show.
Normally when you agree to exhibt at any kind of trade show you receive bundles of forms to fill in. This usually includes a free entry/listing in the 'show' guide.
The deadline on returning these forms can often be several months in advance of the show and it is amazing how many businesses miss this simple opportunity.
In addition most shows also offer a variety of other potential 'publicity' windows to exhibitors (i.e. speaking slots/sponsorships etc.) but again these have to be jumped on fast. Free speaking slots in particular are hard to obtain (unless you are Bill Gates) without actually nagging the show organisers a long way in advance of the show to establish your credentials (sometimes up to a year in advance).
A lot depends about when CCP booked the stand. If it was done last minute then it is not surprising they missed out on a lot of the in-show PR.
A lot also depends on the capabilities of the PR support before and during the show in terms of setting up advance interviews/meetings - badgering the in-show newspaper (if one exists) and generally doing your best to get heard over the general publicity 'noise' (I don't mean that literally).
A lot of businesses think that shows/exhibitions are the best time to launch new products - but we actually normally advise against this because unless you are launching something HUGE (i.e. Wii) your announcement will only get swallowed up and lost amongst all the other announcements.
Hopefully if EVE's PR has been doing its job they will have been introducing new journalists to the game and getting them interested. The contacts should be maintained and followed up after the show as they are then more open to the product and more likely to do 'feature' articles rather than just news in brief snippets...

Edge 4tw. GamesTM on the other hand, gawd I hope not. I stopped buying that magazine last year (been reading since issue 3).
From the amount of reviews and articles published, they have their collective heads rammed up Nintendo's arse waay too far to be considered objective.
I can see a review of EVE on their part being seen as too slow or obscure. And lacking elves and plumbers and fluffy pink blobs and so on.

Apologies for the lack of Dev Diary entries, between manning the booth, the hardware deployment shutting down the forums (and Dev Blog), and all the networking going o, there just hasn't been time. I've been averaging 5 hours of sleep, something not condusive to coherent posts or blogs.
Picture of the booth are up and again, I apologize for the picture quality. The cell phone camera is nice for convenience, but not good for imaging.

For those that have been asking, the EVE Mobil demo went off very well. This beta version includes the ability to view your character attributes, security status, and wallet, change skills, browse the market and place buy or sell orders, and view or send EVE mail.
The current version is a bit rough around the edges, but looks very sharp. At the moment, it runs on Windows Mobile 5, I am not sure if there are plans for development on other OS or platforms.

That is artwork used in one of the issues of E-ON, if I remember correctly. There are no plans for an integrated EVE FPS at this time. Sorry if the artwork excited you into thinking this was the case.

If you really want to rule the gaming world, after the IPTV thing becomes generally standard (20+megs per second), you could integrate FPS in the following way.
Pirates use FPS players to board and capture targeted ships. Those ships can hire FPS players to defend said ships.
Fleets would use marines to board and capture enemy ships and stations.
Anyone could use marines to land on planetary surfaces to capture or destroy on-planet assets such as mines, factories, and planetary defenses.
All very exciting, all very much able to conquer the known gaming world.

Am I the only one that can't seem to download the 82mb file of the new pics?
I've tried it on both IE and Mozilla, everything else works fine....downloads and all.

Will the Eve Mobile work on normal versions of Windows. Say if you have a laptop that wont run EVE that your taking on a business trip but still want to change skills.
PRoposal to fix blobbing and make Charisma useful.
