Hi All,
Title says it all - couldn't find any topic regarding this issue. This would happen rarely from time to time after killing rats or finishing a kill mission when I go to grab my loot. I would get well uner 1500 meters, try to open the can, and get the message that I needed to be within 1500 meters to access it.
Normally I would head to another can, then head back and it wouldn't happen again.
Well it became awfully frequent last night as I started running missions in my new Cyclone. One mission I couldn't access ANY of the cans even if the overview AND hud said I was a mere 500 meters away.
Anyone else have this happen? Anyone know of a fix?
Thanks much,
Zen

Happened to me. No conclusive workaround. Try docking and relogging.

The only work around I know is to bookmark the can and then warp away and back, this resets you position and should allow you to open the can.
The usual cause of the problem is a single packet drop on the network so the server thinks you are in a slightly different location to your computer, by warping away the two re-sync and you can then open the can again. I usually get this after being bumped by something and it is prevelent alot in Worlds Collide mission for the person tanking the damage. << Insert whitty sig here >>

This makes sense, thanks for the help and info.

Circle around the can until you can open it. Its very easy, you do not have to warp away and back to pick it up.

In my experience this mostly happens if there's lag or sluggishness in the system, and I either select "Stop ship" and or change course before I am within 1500m of the can, and then use the ships inertia to glide into range before stopping or speeding off towards the next can. If there's any sign of lag or sluggishness in the system, it'll tell me I'm not within 1500m, though the overview disagrees. Usually just clicking approach and "Stop ship" when I am in range will fix it for me.
The same thing actually applies to acceleration gates in deadspace. Sometimes I will stop the ship or change course before reaching the gate and then just glide to a stop within activation range, to avoid entangling when activating. Only to get "You need to be within 2500m..." when clearly the overview says that I am.

I have noticed that sometimes there is a big discrepancy in you distance to target and the overview this has cause me the same problems as you guys usually now I will wait to the end of the battle to empty the cans then get within at least 500m of the can before i open it

Also: Using a tractor beam will solve this problem, too, at least with the cans.

Its lag, plain ans simple. While using an alt ive been able to see things from another perspective and the lag is showing your ship being somewhere its not. Just give it a few to catch up, thats about the only thing you can do.

I just target the can. That works 9 out of 10 times.... for me at least. _______________________________________
