They kindly answered my questions promptly and accurately.
However, it would be really nice to not have to ask them questions, and just be able to quickly search the knowledge base for good answers to what are probably basic questions like 'firing weapons' and 'running out of charges'.
One thing I would like to suggest would be to put the full text of the beginner's tutorial online, so an easy text search can be done. Just saying something to the effect of 'the tutorial will show you X' in the on-site tutorial is not helpful.
I understand that going through the tutorial, the whole several hours long length of it, might be one other suggestion, but consider that if someone has a question to something they forgot in the tutorial, what happens then? Also, some people might not want or need to go through the whole tutorial.
Thanks for your time.

You're lucky that you now have a pretty extensive tutorial. When I started, the tutorial was around half an hour and consisted of mining a bit of veld, shooting a droid and docking. After that, you were pretty much on your own.
I'd agree to needing an online manual of sorts to help but mostly if you call out for help either in local or the help channel, someone will generally respond. If you get really stuck, this forum normally returns answers quite fast.

The Dev team are in the process of putting together an EveWiki. when this is eventually online, I'm sure withing a few weeks it'll have almost every piece of data you could think of in it.
WHEN this will come out? Who knows.. "Soon."

The tutorial has come a long way but it's a little out of date and incomplete. The most commonly asked questions in Rookie Help channel should be covered in the tutorial and there should also be some diligence in keeping the tutorial comprehensive. Let ISD STAR volunteers participate in the writing of the tutorials, they're the ones who deal with rookies and so they'll know what confuses them.
A more critical change (over aggression countdown and autopilot avoid kill zones - the two of the most frequenly asked questions in RH) to the tutorial is to have it inform the user about the three channels he is invited to and let the user make an informed decision as to where to talk. If you look at the local chat for newbie systems you'll find a lot of <1 day olds saying "hi" and then getting confused as to why there's little response. This can easily be rectified by getting them to talk where there are more people.

I think the tutorial should link to the forums to tell the new player what a wealth of knowledge is there, if they could just be bothered to search. I know that means effort but it was not so long ago when there was practically no tutorial bar the mine asteroid shoot drone and lots of effort/trial and error was needed to find out what to do and how to do it.
