I was thinking about running missions to help with standings and what not and the typhoon seemed like the best low sp level 4 runner. Am I wrong? If not could someone link me a low sp typhoon fit? |

I haven't checked, so I could be wrong but the Typhoon is two weapon systems (Drones, Missiles/Torp) as well as Tank and Navigation skill heavy. That would make me think it's not an easy low SP ship to fly.
IMO; The progression of weapons and tank training goes well with tank bonused hulls for low SP toons, so Maelstrom, Hyperion, Abaddon.

Had an additional thought, what weapons have you trained so far? And what tank shield/armor? Most fits can be compensated for low SP with some faction/deadspace mods, but tank is more expensive to compensate for than weapons (Meta 4 will work for a awhile) and propulsion mods as well (meta-4 till you can finish the training).

Well, even though sentry drones do help get the most out of a Typhoon (100Mbit Bandwidth), it's still mostly a missile boat. Usually T2 sentries contribute some 20-30% of its dps, which, while important, is not totally crippling if you miss out on it, especially as you might still get some damage out of whatever other drones you'd use instead. And even without drones, the Typhoon has better damage than a Raven, albeit with less range.
I've never flown one myself, so I don't know how it'll turn out, but I guess your biggest problem will be its somewhat weak tank. |

The typhoon can work with a lower sp character. One of my alts recently got Cruise Spec level 1 and otherwise is an all level 4 character, e.g. AWU IV, all missile supports IV, Minnie BS IV, etc. I checked in the ingame fitting window and the Typhoon was showing 216 + 608 = 824 DPS with T2 Gardes and Fury Cruise.
That will be a bit better now that the character has Cruise Spec 4 and is working on getting all missile supports to V (it was 850 DPS when I checked after getting Cruise Spec IV and one of the missile supports to V). Character is not using any missile hardwires so that's an easy DPS bonus if you can spend 100 mill or so for a set of +3 hardwires.
For an all V character and all T2 fit, I can get a touch over 1100 DPS from a cruise / sentry typhoon but there's room to improve that a bit as I don't use 5% hardwires and the fitting could be tweaked a bit.
The lower SP character is running an all T2 fit, 3 slot armour tank + LAR , 2 BCS and a DCU rather than 3 BCS as they don't have max fitting skills like myself. You could probably drop the DCU and fit a third BCS if you plugged in a genolution set, just depends if you can easily afford it or not. |

Maelstrom is used because it's the best projectile T1 BS dps-wise, Dominix is vastly more popular than either Hyperion or Megathron, Apocalypse is the main amarr weapons noobie platform and the Caldari use a missile god that is Raven. Typhoon isn't used as much as Mael simply because minmatar players tend to gravitate towards projectiles more, otherwise it's only slighly behind Raven (and some argue that the navy Phoon is actually superior to CNR, though I wouldn't go that far).
Tldr: Typhoon is fine. |

I dont really care about projectiles, I fly a null sec incursion maelstrom with t2 autos on a different character so that itch is scratched.
I want to get this characters rep up for brokers fees and having a high sec missile spewer for level 4s might be fun (might not be smart).
I like the phoons double damage bonus and drone bandwith (we <3 drones where i "live).
I think its superior over the raven cause of it. That said I have enough caldari navy rep to buy a CNR without spending isk so w/e if im super bored i might do that. |

Typhoon works alright. I got one with shield tank. With one Sensor Booster and targeting range script it got 130 km targeting range, and I got about 140 km cruise missile range (missile range extending rigs). Life is short and dinner time is chancy Eat dessert first! |

It is ok with low SP(just don't forget that drones are a massive chunk on dps on it to, so get sentry drones and some drone skills to), it is one of the better ones with a lot of SP. I would even rate the fleet phoon as currently best L4 option available if you can handle tons of micromanagement and are proficient in flying glass cannon setups.

As for options you can use mjd and sniper or utilize a speed mod and close range sentry drones, while the last option is a bit harder on the tank, it also allows you to deal a lot more damage, since you will be in painter optimal most of the time, don't need to count volleys and can use garde or curator drones for extra dps.
This a small game play example how the phoon(fleet phoon in that case) can be flown, how to utilze the drones(the option to kill frigs at range and finish of stuff with sentry's compared t the Raven hull family is awesome on the phoons) and how it performs later down the road in a glass cannon setup for L4: http://dl.eve-files.com/media Improve discharge rigging: https://forums.eveonline.com/default.aspx?g=posts&t=246166&find=unread

Typhoon is great low isk/sp ship for any purpose. With logi it can do C4 anoms comfortably. L4 missions without problem. (yes i mean shield variant.) Then you can jump to fleet version and laugh at silly golem/raven users with same cruise damage/application but no drone bay. |

People vastly over-estimate the difficulty of PvE.
I use a regular Phoon to run 8/10 to 10/10 anoms in null sec. T1 cruise, T1 ammo (cuz I'm cheap), T1 sentries, the rest T2 with the only faction module I own being a shield boost amp that I honestly don't really need. Oh and T1 rigs. Never come close to difficult, much less lethal.
Basically, cheap does it just fine, anything shinier is just speeding up the process. Since I only PvE to kill time between PvP fleets, I don't care about isk/hour nonsense, but with my skills and a very basic boat- takes me just over one 20 minute 'tick' to finish a 8/10 Forsaken Hub. A little longer on the anoms with more frigates, as I have to constantly recall lights to keep them alive. I do not refit for the various sites. Too lazy to refit just because a site has a few more scram frigs than a Forsaken Hub.
Even though I can run the sites faster in a Tengu, if I were to lose the Phoon, I'd hardly care since it's paid for itself dozens of times over. T3's are an expensive way to speed up the grind minimally.
The Rus guys were flying Phoon PvP fleets during the Halloween War, don't know if it's still a doctrine they use. From what little I saw of them, they didn't meet with great success- but I could be wrong (not that they lost battles so much as losing a lot of ships in the process).
If you want to toss yard darts from a flying trash can.......it's as good as anything for PvE. |
