So I run off on my first 0.4 trip, shooting a few NPC's in asteroid belts and this pirate shows up. It looked like he was flying a fast, agile ship (interceptor?) and i could neither target him back or warp out for the entire duration of the "fight".
Of course, I am a total noob and had not equipped any countermeasures of any kind. I have good gunnery skills, but then again if you can't shoot... I suppose I learned now that countermeasures are a total must in pvp, right?
Could someone give me some advise on what modules and tactics I should use for 0.4 space and lower, mainly for fighting NPC's there but also so that I can be able to defend myself (at least get off a shot or two ) when necessary?

Chances are he got under your guns. Equip a nosferatu and suck his cap dry. a targets speed will be reduced then stick a couple of missles up his ass

Cruiser weapons in general are not effective against frigates (by design). All races do have close-range, fast-tracking weapons in each size category which are REASONABLY effective against ships a size smaller.A common tactic for cruisers that expect to engage frigates is to load a couple of weapon slots with frigate weaponry rather than cruiser weaponry, or with said fast-track weapons. Webbifiers and nosferatus are also almost standard issue in PVP. On the defensive side, warp core stabilisers are your friend
Hope this helps

If you could not target him he used ecm, if you could not warp he used a scrambler.
A frigate with a speed boost, ecm mod and scrmbler is nto likely to have many more medlots, and pretty damn likely to be running out of cap soonish (ecm mods use lots of cap).
So, you should be fitted with something of a tank to absorb enough to damage to outlast the jamming, and then you need a web and/or a medium nosferatu.
However, as long as frigs with ecm are overpowered like they are there can be no guarantee he will run out of cap fast enough for you to still be alive.
Final option is fitting a medslot eccm module. Will make you twice as hard to jam but takes another medslot you can ill affor to use.
gl. My first cruiser got killed by the gallente navy btw. Altho I'd probably flown it for a couple weeks before that.

While i think about it - a good method if u want to learn PvP is to train up to warp scramblers (wont take long) - fit scrambler and webber on a high-scan-resolution light frigate (fast lock time), and advertise yourself as a tackler to a pvp corp or the protection wing of a mining corp. You will die a lot - and you will learn a lot :)

im assuming it would be a safe bet to keep some F.O.F. missiles with you, so when you get jammed, you can still shoot back, but imho, F.O.F. suck

FOF do suck but they become a very good friend when you are jammed...also watch local and your belt, assume everyone is a pirate unless you know them or have met them before. Stabs are ok if you are running a cargo ship though low sec space, or transporting something valuable. In most cases all they do is limit your ablity to deal damage to your full potential. Why use 2x wcs when you can fit 2x bcu..if you are able to deal more damage you wont need the stabs. I wont talk poo about people who use wcs in PvP, I dont really give a damn what their setups are - but for me I see it as a waste of slots. But you may want to try and use em till you can fit eccm's (not sure if they work - never used them) or use FOF missles efectively. PS if something is spelled incorrect - I dont care.
Just a thought S-A-P-H-A

Oh God it burns!
