Edited by: Kaiser Sozay on 09/05/2006 10:56:01 I have seen some derogatory language re: "Macro Miners. What does that term mean?
Thx

As Ltmayday said, a macroer is someone who uses a third party program to automate repetitive tasks like mining and hauling. Macrominer - some one who uses macros to mine.
A lot of the time they're not actually away from the keyboard, but are running multiple accounts in order to amass as much ISK as possible, then sell for real money on places like ebay.
Both the use of a third party program and the sale of ISK for real money are against the EULA and will result in the account being banned.

Yea, well, how can you know someone is using 3rd party program and not just simply mining? A bit strange to ban someone just because he was mining 12+ hours a day.

Because when a GM looks at the logs of a suspect player they will se the same action repeated after the same exact number of seconds again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again.
A person cannot be that exact.

Ah, this makes me feel better. I was getting accused of being one of these last night. I ignored one attempt by someone at a personal chat, because I was watching out for my arse and then later I fortunately noticed in local chat (which I don't look at much, because I'm looking out for my arse ) that I was being accused of being a macrominer, because I went back and forth a lot and didn't chat.
When I spoke up, they said they canceled the petition against me. It is a relief to know that if I had been investigated, it would have been pretty easy to see that I was actually at the keyboard, because nothing I do is precise.

So a macro cannot be written with a random number generator within the code generating a random number of seconds before the next step in the macro is run? hrm. I'm pretty sure I can, but just on a trial account so I won't, cheating is the sux.

I'm sure you can. I am equally sure the GM's have a lot of other ways of spotting macro miners, via their log files or otherwise.

Actually, Im sure you could, with a few random variables. But dont! Its cheating, its forbidden, and it makes the game worse for everyone else. ( Aleast the "real" miners )
