Having taken a good hard look at the new concept Im really impressed with the detail that 'Asgeir Jon Asgeirsson' has put into his concept art designs. Probably the design which has generated the most discussion though for its very unique design is the gallente tier 3 battleship(Gal Teir 3 BS concept art original design), and while I love the detail, the design of the ship is a little too strange for my liking. I think the front of the ship was really well done, but something about the rear-end of the ship seemed to make the design a little unwholesome. Thus having posted a comment on the discussion wall on his website about altering the rear of the ship, I thought I'd do it myself.
This didn't take me long and its a little rough, but I'd be glad to get some feedback and see if anyone agrees with me that I think a simple remodelling of the rear turns the ship from a bizzare apparition to a pretty fearsome looking ship.
And here it is: Redesigned Gallente BS Concept Art

I'm also with the original concept.
Yours looks kinda off to me. The engine disk doesn't look that good in my opinion when it's placed that far back. Also, the center of gravity feels off (though I guess that counts for some other official ships as well). It looks like it's gonna start rotating downwards as soon as it fires those engines up.
Also, in my opinion, the rear stub in your version doesn't look near as good as the rear half in Asgeirsson's. ________ Capship Overhaul |

Edited by: Cotton Tail on 09/05/2006 12:30:46 Valid points, I'll just say why I made the changes though.
I wasn't totally against the length of the original design, just the position of the ring and the... lack of fluidity of the design. In an effort to bring the rear of the ship to 'fit' into the middle I decided to cut out the bit which seemed a little flimsy for a blaster boat. By moving the position of the engine ring from the centre to the rear I feel it just gives more emphasis on the prow, while appearing slightly sleeker and more of a short range agressive ship. Without a real concept of width its hard to guess the exact shape of the ship, I'd imagine it would be fairly rounded though which I think fits in with the general gallente designs.
Edit: as for the actual detail on my 'stubby', well it was just a 5 minute butchering operation on the original design so I'd hope the detail on the original would look better ;).

To be honest I just hate that round, Campbells soup thing around the middle, period. Wish it wasnt there. Makes a ship look like some sort of profane sex toy. Even worse than what Rax reminds everyone of.

Prefer the original concept. "Strange" and "Organic" are the watchwords for Gallente design.

Whaaaa????
The Thorax and the Megathron are the epitome of Gallente design; sleek and sexy. This thing looks like a broken-off piece of twig from a galactic super-tree. ________________________________________________

I don't really dig the hoop design in the middle, it looks like the whole thing will just look really ungainly.
However if it has to be like that, I'd say the hoop needs to be pretty far back.
There, i just contributed nothing to your thread |

I agree, can't really judge this one from the side view, unless this is the 3/4 view which it does not look like which. Most of the other ships have 3/4 view, and I like the center thing so far.

I like the new design better. It looks like a more solid ship. The old design seems kinda gangly, like a teenage boy who just hit a major growth spurt.
IMHO the disk is interesting, but it does seem different. More two diminsional when Gal seems more complex three diminisinal. Think more Jennifer Lopez and less frisbee. Everytime I think of Gal design it remindes me of The Fifth Element. Ummmm....Milla Jovovich...drooollll...
