I was reading something on EVE the other day and it said it great tool for getting around were insta's. I've already gotta ton set up but it also mentioned "docking bookmarks" what does this mean?
It says:
- Place an instant bookmark for your station you want to deliver the ore to. - Place a docking bookmark for your station you want to deliver the ore to.
What exactly is a docking bookmark?

ALright ill explain, you can dock when your within 15km of a station, the thing is, most stations are more then 15km around, so when you un dock and place a bm there, it warps you 15km from the centre of the station, but if a station is 20k out, you will land within docking range and can dock (it can be used from any direction!) ---------------------------

Wait, you lost me. Is it just anywhere within docking range? If it's 15k to dock, how can you dock withi 20k? On a lighter note, does all that mean I need to place a bookmark within docking range and then one in the station?
Thanks, I can be slow

To make an insta at a station:
1. Dock at the station. 2. Undock from the station. 3. When you undock, make a bookmark. Label it appropriately. 4. Warp to some planet or belt. 5. Warp back using the bookmark. You should land within docking range of the station. ___________________

I must correct the responses here, as the docking range for a station is actually 2500m, not 15km. However, many stations are laid out in such a way that bookmarking immediately upon undocking usually makes for a decent station insta.

What Sovy said works best for stations that are fairly large--most stations in my experience. If you bookmark the station immediately when you undock, then the bookmark should be good from just about any location in the solar system. If it doesn't work very well, you may need to navigate to a point that is in the middle of the station and bookmark that. If it still doesn't work, then you need to move the bookmark past the station away from the direction that you expect to arrive from. When the station is small in size, making a docking bookmark can be a bit tricky.

I was given a method and a bm using the method that seems to work. According to this person, jettison a jetcan in the docking ramp and bookmark the can. This, according to her, will invariably result in getting you within docking range. I have tried a bm that she provided. It works, but my ship bounces violently when it arrives, so I'm not sure that it's an optimum method.

My supplier didn't say, and I haven't tried it, but my suspicion is that it would be less likely to work for a gate because a gate is so much smaller than a station.

I have not tried bookmarking as I undock from the station but I haven't had a problem when I bookmark when I am under the station at the center. I fly beneath the station (as close as I can) and when I see that I am in the middle, I bookmark it.
