ShahFluffers wrote:Didn't we already do this thread over in New Citizens subforum? Ah hell... I'll do it again. ShahFluffers wrote:I've done it once. It was thrilling! All the knowledge of an "old timer" with the "worthlessness" of a newbie. I literally threw myself into the most dangerous activities possible despite lacking skills just to see if I could do it.
Plus it's nice not having the baggage of a veteran character with history and hilarious to listen to newbies chatter away over stuff they don't understand (especially when they are facing down your main character).
We did man! I was there. Copy & paste:
I will give you this: Every two years or so, I "start over" by running the tutorials with a character. All of them. In all 4 empires. Then I do the SOE arc. Upgrading from rookieship to t1 frig to destroyer feels like an accomplishment. Makes no sense at all ofcourse. Sue me.
No way ill be starting over tho. I've just reached the point I no longer have to ask myself: "Can I fly that?" . With flying I mean more than just undocking and less than being dangerous in it (still working on that).
As a matter of fact, I became frustrated the other day because my cynoalts cant fly interceptors.
I also dont understand how I could start over in the first place. If I make a new character and join brave newbies for example. I will still have my current knowledge. You'd think someone would notice this new n00b (me) learning things really really fast. Too fast with too little questions actually.
Besides, I'm still learning now. Every day. At the moment my new learning requires characters with more than the basic skillpoints.
Al things being said and done: If you think you will enjoy completely starting over skillpointswise; go for it. |

I did. This here was a new character. He just passed his 1y birthday on the 4th of April. He is at 19.3m SP now. Probably could have done more if I had bought +5 implants but alas.
The whole rerolling thing just kind of makes you stop taking skills for granted. On my main I've had AWU, Drone Interfacing, High Speed Maneuvering, ... for ages and never really thought much of it. It's just one of those skills you have and you consider the most normal thing in the world. Like who doesn't have Drone Interfacing 5?? :P
Retraining those longer 'core' skills suddenly made me respect them a lot more, if that makes any sense. I stopped taking them for granted. :P
I did enjoy starting over and joining RvB in the process was a good idea. I enjoy PvP more than PvE and the ships and fights you end up in with RvB are very much accessible to new players. It also showed me that there really is no skill requirement for having fun in EVE. It's very much possible from the first day you log in. People who say they can't do XXX because of their lack of SP just aren't looking or trying hard enough.
I did do the new tutorials as well, as well as the Blood Stained Stars mission line. I might do some of the Empire faction story lines later, when I get enough standing to access them. :) |

Never have used a trial account, but we have 2 characters (unused alts) on various accounts which date back to the first week of the games launch and have never been in anything but the starter corp that we just started skilling for kicks and giggles. |

Why do you have to do this? (out of interest) and I imagine when (if) you leave CCP you have to leave that character behind as well? Seems a shame. I love to reload during a battle... There's nothing like the feeling of slamming a long silver missile, into a well greased chamber... |

Back when I skilled up Carriers I got my first Archon, a great milestone for any capsuleer. Anyways, after messing around for a bit, it became readily apparent you need at least one cyno alt on another account to be truly effective. So I started a new account for this purpose.
For fun, I used one of the slots to start a miner/builder/inventor from scratch. It has actually been fun to learn a completely different part of the game and play in hisec. The new toon is up to 30mil SP and with his T2 prodcution actually keeps my main going in PvP.
HOWEVER, it is not the same as a new character that is scratching out a life in EVE. If my indy alt needs isk for a new ship or materials or POS mods or whatever, it takes 2 seconds to just move isk from the main. No more budgeting and planning when it comes to advancing.

Whenever I get bored and feel the need to infiltrate.. I roll another account and start all over again.
You need that super pure history/API to be effective. Since the cessation of their usefulness is imminent, may I appropriate your belongings? |

My observation over the years is the sort of new players that whine about how a low SP character is not fun are still whining several years later and ironically will even start claiming how "EVE is dieing" and talk about how "its not as good as back when they were a new player" :D |

I can understand the reasons behind this procedure. I do hope however when you say "forfeit all my existing characters" you mean they are put into a state of inactivity (suspended anitmation and unaccessable) while your employment with CCP lasts then returned to you upon exiting the company and NOT biomassed into oblivion never to be seen again.

Honestly, I'm not sure I would toast my Toasters to work at CCP.
That's right, I'm calling pod pilots Toasters from now on... I mean we basically are Cylons.

I feel the same way about EVE, and MMOs more generally, that I feel about the colleges I've attended: I've never yet found one where the participants are happy with what they're getting and proud to be a member. I'm confident that if I attended Harvard, Princeton, or Yale, there would be people complaining that the school is falling apart and on its way to ultimate ruin. Unfortunately, this propensity to be negative and pessimistic seems to just be a natural part of communication for some. The same goes for work environments. Follow me on Twitter at @FigaroDevars |
