Another newbie question....
Trawling the forums the ISK figures I see bandied about seem huge. As a newcomer (a few weeks in the game) some of the figures seem barely cnceivable when I am running around doing missions that pay 80k if I am lucky.
I appreciate that Eve is a market economy - it's one of the reasons I think the game is so great - and that in such an economy you make your own luck. Thus, just as in the real world economy where there are billionaire who have been lucky and/or have dedicated extraordinary amounts of time and hard work to building up their fortunes, there must be a lot of average earners. Thus my question - what's an average income in Eve ?:
I KNOW this is a "how long is a piece of string ?" question but if any of you veterans out there could shed any light on rules of thumb for earnings rates, income and so on it would be a great aid to calibrating my ambition. And please don't flame me for asking a lame question - I know that if I spend all day every day online mining (whihc I can't as I don't have the sort of employer that will let me drop the Eve client onto my machine at work !!!) I will earn more than if I log on for a couple of hours a couple of times a week.....there must be a rough average (just an order of magnitude of ISK) earnings rate per hour of play, or, if there are any economists out there - do you have any idea what a typical Pareto curve for an Eve character's lifetime earnings would look like ?
(Forgive me if I have garbled my economics...that freshman year was a long time ago)

I am new, so I'll give you comparable figures: 300k - 500k per hour mining. about 300k doing Worlds Collide. 80k - 100k doing other level 1 missions. Remember to finish quickly for the bonus.
Once you get your skills up, you can do more risky things for more reward. You can also join a corp and specialize.

There is a very simple rule for the income. The more risk you take, the more money you CAN make.
You cant really say that an old character will earn more money than a newer character. It all depends on the risk you are willing to take. So there is no real curve for lifetime versus income.

Risk x Time = Reward ..usually

5-10 million an hour is pretty standard for a good empire miner or mission runner. 15 million is about the peak you'll ever get from missions.

As you do higher level missions you'll be paid more for finishing, although they require better equipment to accomplish as well. Sig removed, please keep it below 24000 bytes, email [email protected] if you have any questions - Xorus |

As stated earlier, the more risk, the more reward. But as you gain standing with certain npc corp, better agents become available and therefore more lucrative missions offered. I recently found a lvl 2 Q16 agent and his pay is typically 1.2x higher than previous lvl 2 agents.
You don't necessarily have to accept every mission offered also (i.e., turn down those crappy pay/time or pay/risk missions). Mind you, a free decline can only be made every four or so hours. Hence, it would behoove you to have agents nearby who pay pretty well or just kill the time by ratting/PvPing/mining instead. Heck, do some RL stuff (:
There have been ISK/hr figures given of which I am a bit skeptical, or simply b/c they come from veterans with alts. As a casual gamer (few hours of game play per workday and a bunch on weekends), I think I was averaging 1-2m/hr. after two or so weeks into the game. That may be a conservative estimate and also on the low side, but it is pretty realistic. Six weeks in and I'm probably averaging twice as much.
Note: the values I have given above do not take in the loot obtained, as I am too lazy to reprocess or find buyers for them.

Depending on what you do, 200k-300k/hour is fairly easy to achive in most activities.
Playing the EvE market will also give you income generation while you are offline. There are several good resources in the Market Discussions board that will help you get started with this. As a casual player myself, I've found this to be the best way to finance my regular expenses. (insurance, ammo, shuttles, rents)
