When you attack a ship.. can we see the laser/missle exploding off a shield instead of the ships hull.. Untill a ships shield is down to 0 then we see damage on the hull.. Have the explosion wrap around a sphere shaped shield to give the illusion that a shield is acctually working.. When you engage shield boosters you can see this force field, so why not have it visible when it takes a hit?

Agreed.
I notice that EM missiles have quite an interesting effect. If the effect of each type of damage was different, it would also help in determining which hardener to use instead of switching them all on just in case. Amarr beams are different colors, why can't the ammo detonations on your shields have different colors too in relation to the damage type?

Lasers already have that color coding...not that that really helps since you know what dmg to tank vs them.

well if you pay attention to sound carefully, havoc (explosive) heavy missiles go "ka-cpoom" and others just go "bhoom"
but that doesnt help completley does it. ------------------- uhh.. what does this button do? |

Anyone that has seen stargate and stargate atlantis will know what im talking about.. How the ships shields are viewable when something hits it.. This is what im looking at

It needn't be purely cosmetic, either. Perhaps the shield could change appearance as it weakens, allowing you to estimate shield strength of a ship you don't have a lock on.

its just a matter of having the impact animation and gfx sit off the ship and envelop around a sphere shaped shield... simple, its very very simple infact This needs to be done!!

or if you pay moderately close attention to the missiles as they come in, you will see their color scheme. red is thermal, orange is explosive, and blue is EM. there is kinetic, but it's color is close to explosive.

Have a look at the new CCP video, Near the end you can see a a Amarr Frieghter being attacked and im pretty sure you can see the weapon fire being reflected by shields (either that or its just shield boosting) so it looks like it will be in the engine upgrade.

Hope it is, but more likely an weapon effect hittin the ship looking like a shield impact.

In the middle of a battle, I am not paying attention to minor details like that, I'm more interested in trying to minimise the damage they are causing. Not all of us have the skills to calmly sit and read messages from the battle comp, some of us have to work to keep our ship from popping.
Where would this information come from anyway? Your cryptic answer doesn't exactly give any clues.

I think it's shield bubbles, as you see the pulse of a shieldbooster each time it activates.

100% behind having shields like Stargate or Stargate Atlantis. Invisible until struck, when it lights up. Also, as the shields are taxed on the show, the color of the shields changes from blue to more orange. Soon after that you have resident tech expert on the bridge shouting "we can't stay here any longer Captain!" no kidding Scherlock.
If nothing else I need something pretty to stare at whilst shooting back. Would love to see my shields while fighting and not just when boosting. Shield hardeners are kinda along with this idea already but explosions and such don't stop at the shield effect; they continue until you see explosion inside, on the armor/hull.
