Hi there,
I read somewhere on the forum about "buy a new clone whenever you die".
I died recently (so called "podded"). When I visit the medical services, it says that I still have a clone (at a level that is more skill points than my current skill points) in my starter school.
Q1. Do you "use up a clone" each time you are podded and therefore need to replace one?
Q2. Is "buying a clone" same as "upgrading a clone"? In my case, my current clone has more skillpoints that I do - so I guess I dont have to "upgrade" the clone level now. But, do I get a new one after I get podded?
thanks for answering

If your total skill points are below 30000, you don't have to upgrade. You always have an Alpha clone (30000 sp) no matter what.
If you have more than 30000 sp, you should upgrade your clone to cover it.

My skillpoints are at 600k-ish now, with a clone that covers up to 900k points. Does that mean I dont have to buy a new clone until I have trained pass 900k, no matter how many times I get podded?

When you have trained pass the 900k limit, you'll better upgrade the clone to cover more skill-points. Iirc, upgrading costs less that totally new clone - have not activated one in a while.
Every clone contract is an one-shot contract. You better buy a new clone, after the activation when you get podded. You do not have to, but better clone than to be sorry.

You will always have a minimum of an Alpha clone (30000 sp).
After you get pod killed, your 900k-sp clone becomes you. The cloning facility gives you a new Alpha clone as a courtesy service. You should definitely upgrade the new clone to cover your skill points.

You didn't get podded. Podded means someone kills your pod after killing your ship. Podding does not mean being left in your pod.
I made this mistake and it caused confusion in my mind for ages.

Loony, thanks! That has just helped to make the communications clearer.
Initially, I thought they have different meaning: "getting podded" means just losing the ship but found myself in the "pod"; and "getting pod-killed" means losing the ship AND also killed when I was "in the pod".
OK, now I think they mean the same, i.e. killed in a "pod".
Right, I havent' been killed in a pod before, but have lost the ships a few times. That explains why my one-use clone contract is still active.
thanks for clearing the confusion.

Ahhh the good old newbie "Podded" slipup, happens to the best of us.
For clone upgrading, I try to stick to a Million mark, upgrading my clone 1mil sp over what I currently have (podding is fairly rare unless your in a war, usually you can get away). Clones are pretty cheap, espically the lower lvl ones
A few things to note:
NPCs, Sentry Guns, And any other Computer controled weaponry, will NOT pod you, only destroy your ship.
Players are the only ones who Will pod you, and 99% of the time you can warp away before they lock onto your pod.
The only time I've been podded is when I first started the game, two pirats in Assault Frigs jumped me in Old Man Star.
