Has anyone noticed that the tech 2 railgun and the prototype tech 1 variety have the same tracking and damage output.
However, the Tech 2 gun is harder to fit (CPU & Powergrid) AND its more expensive.
What gives? Now I know you can use tech 2 ammo with the railgun 2 but its loads more money for that stuff.
I have an Enyo and decided to go for the prototype guns as it was loads cheaper than the railgun 2's - why should i bother with tech 2 guns - is tech 2 ammo really that good

Well, as far as I can tell (I can't use tech 2 guns yet) it's the ability to use the tech II ammo (usually only makes sense to use for PVP due to price, really) and the fact that with the small railgun specialization skill you get the 2% bonus to tech II railgun damage per skill level, which gives a slight damage bonus over the prototype gun.
When I get my assault frigs eventually, I'll use named T1 variants at first due to easier fitting and all that.

The tech 2 weapons benefit from the spec skill. Which means that if you have the skill @ 4 thats 8% more damage.
Plus for Medium and Large weapons the tech 2 ones are cheaper and easier to find.

Edited by: TuRtLe HeAd on 12/05/2006 08:46:50 ALL tech II guns are the same as the best named and harder to fit.
Tech II guns get a bonus from the Specialaztion skills where as Tech I does not. You will see a Higher Damage increase from tech II over Tech I. Its nothing to do with the ammo, as the ammo has only just come into the game.
Ergo, Tech II > Tech I

and yes, the t2 ammo is that good. Spike has better range and way more damage tham iron, 80km range on my harpy and thats with junk gunnery skills. ----- Geotech is recruiting! |

125mm Railguns II also use 25% more cap than the prototype versions. If you're trying to run stable with a small tech 2 shield booster always on... it might mean the difference between infinite boost and having to turn it off.

put spike ammo in that 125mm railgun and trust me you'll never question the 125mm prototype gauss again >_> ------ FPDOMS MINER KILLBOARD |

Tech II 125's rock. Apart from the fact they look better, its just generally better to have them. Having to use Iron ammo means you may as well get out and poke the enemy ship with a 40km stick, it wont dent them.
Spike is dangerous ammo, and shouldnt be underestimated. 57km Optimal with my Harpy, 125's and spike, and my skills aint even that great. IMO ther better than named, regardless of their fittings.
