Hi.
Two question from young industrialist:
1. Where I can get BPO (I've heard something about contracts, but how do they work?) 2. If some moon already has POS next to it, can I build another one there or should I destroy the enemy's one first? Can I hack POS somehow, so that it will become my own? |

Depends on the type of BPO you're looking for. Tech II BPO's are no longer dropped, and are only sold over contracts for obscene amounts of ISK. Tech I BPO's are generally sold by NPC's at various stations, or re-listed by players at market hubs. Bpo's can be purchased on market or through contracts. Moons can only have one pos on it so if you you want that moon you must physically remove the existing pos. Always willing to help all you have to do is ask, though if your in the other fleet I may not help the way you want. Just a heads up. |

Sources of BPO:
* NPC Sell orders (these are always >90 days and typically >360 days). Some BPO are region specific, i.e. you can find small projectile ammo BPO anywhere, but large ammo BPO are only sold in Minmatar space [this my be an incorrect example, but you get the idea].
* Contracts. BPO which have ever had a research or manufacturing quote become "unpackaged", and can only be sold via contracts.
* In-game BPO Trade channel. The actual trades are done via contracts. Never trade via trade window.
* Sell orders forum. The actual trades are done via contracts. Never trade via trade window.

Here are some clarifications:
Brand new, unresearched BPO's may be bought at NPC stations. Different NPC corps offer different BPO's, so you have to lookup who's selling your BPO to find the station you want. Sometimes players buy them from semi-remote areas of the game and relist them (with a markup) in the trade hubs, saving you the hunt (for a price).
Researched BPO's are sold by contracts. These are typically found in the market hubs. Researched BPC's may also be found in contracts.
Researching a BPO will reduce the material requirements needed to build their product. Typically, it is more expensive to produce something from an unresearched BPO than it is to buy it off the market. Highsec research lines have long queues (1-5 weeks), so expect the wait.
T2 BPO's are rare and extremely expensive items generally sold on the forums.

You'll also need to make your own corp, and you'll need high enough standings with the empire you want to build your POS in, and have enough of the proper fuel and starbase charters to keep it running. |

As a new industrialist i would council against having a POS. you can buy researched BPO or unresearched and just research them yourself in stations. Sure ome of the wait times are long but when it is done they are done. Some BPO's don't need any research to be profitable and these are good places to start. Not all things are profitable to build. I am about 9 months into manufacturing and run 10 manu and 10 research slots 24/7. (not this char). The still don't need a POS and am glad i don't have the hastle and expense of running one. Money at its root is a form of rationing. When the richest 85 people have as much wealth as the poorest 3.5 billion (50% of humanity) it is clear where the source of poverty is. http://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2014/jan/20/trickle-down-economics-broken-promise-richest-85 |

.. and this is all changing this summer
Dev Blog - Building Better Worlds
Highlights: * Unlimited research and manufacturing slots (price depends on usage - blog to come on this). * No standings to anchor control tower. * Can anchor in 0.8 sec to 1.0 sec systems, except few restricted systems like Jita. * Making copies will be faster. * BPO must go in the arrays.

Mind you, if you want to take down a POS then it will take A LOT of time, a constant DPS output of 700 hp's (Good sized battleship) with a damage type thats NOT resisted would take 5 hours of CONSTANT SHOOTING to bring down a small tower, plus factor in a repair fleet, likely shield hardeners, the strontium reinforced mode, massive fleets protecting the POS, plus the POS guns. Bottom line, don't try to take one down. |

I was talking about totaly abandoned towers. Do they still have shields in-tact even without fuel? I heard, that battleship with bonused guns and heavy drones can have a constant DPS of 1400 hp/s, not 700. If no-one will clean up abandoned POSes, we will run out of moons in high sec. Sooner or later... Next patch is all about manufacturing, POSes will become more popular, IMHO. |

They don't have shields but they still have armor, its about 1.5-2 mil hp's for a small, 25mil hp's for a medium tower and about 50mil hp' for full towers on just armor. |

You can get most, although not all, unresearched BPOs from NPC stations in high sec.
Taking down an offline POS is not something new pilots will likely be able to do. You could pay mercenaries to do it if you trust them. There are big changes coming in terms of POS usage which may make them the poorer choice compared to NPC stations in terms of cost to use and safety. Read the latest dev blog. |
