Greetings Community;
Sky here, I have been a miner for the majority of my EVE career. I have recently developed a hatred for all those who choose to sit outside gates and wormholes waiting for the next explorer or passerby only to destroy them on sight. The scum that sit outside wormholes are especially aggravating to me. It is one thing to enter a gate, knowing where you will end up on the other side, but to destroy the sense of adventure in exploration simply because you are lazy enough to sit outside a wormhole for hours at a time is particularly disgusting.
The truth is, I know little to nothing about Recon/BlackOps/CovertOps and I am asking for help. I am trying to figure out the best way to explore the far reaches while feeling somewhat safe. And even dealing with these ambushing a--holes if possible. I don't want to muddle up a thread with unnecessary chatter, so if you could please send me a message personally, I would be forever grateful. Any help you could lend on the matter would be immensely appreciated.
Fly Safe
Sincerely and respectfully

Good luck.
Simply said. This is a pvp game. You choose to do an occupation that is non-pvp related. *shrug*
That all being said, Recon/Black Ops/CovertOps are all great for fleet action. 1v1 they can be good if you know what your doing, but your better off with a HAC or something along those lines.

Before everyone trolls your post to the trash bin - I'd like to say that I support your endeavor. All of us should be looking to explore out into 0.0.
Really thats probably all that we have in common though at this point. You cannot explore safely, and honestly the only way your going to "feel" safe is with friends. A lot of them.
Even then, you just run higher odds of attracting bigger fish. So my advice is your playing this game wrong. Accept your going to get killed out there in the big bad sea, be happy you thought of that ahead of time by upgrading your clone, and don't expect that your first few endeavors out into null sec to go exploring all by your lonesome is going to pay off.
If you want advice on how to get that accomplished, your asking in the wrong place, nobody can tell you everything you need to know to stay alive out there on a forum. Join up on a nullsec gang, get some experience. Expect at some point they'll betray you, and be happy that you learned what you did from them while you were with them.
Just go out and explore anyways with the understanding that yes, its a suicide mission, and yes, it is worth it. |

Good luck.
What I suspect you'll do is train some combat ship or another, possibly on an alt, and start scouting yourself. You'd probably be better off just fitting cloaks to everything and scouting with a covops, but I doubt that'll quench your thirst. Don't get discouraged. Be aware, though, that consistently banging your head against it isn't going to solve this problem. You'll definatly have to activly seek out fittings and tactics knowledge, as well as get some experience.
There's some guides out there, but the best way really is to hook up with an experienced pvper and get him to show you what's up. Maybe start looking for small gang pvp corps to hang out with for a bit? |

Thank you for the advice, but you few seem to be the only helpful ones out there. It seems every time I ask for advice/help in-game, I get these sarcastic and elitist remarks. Hard to link up with a group of people when everyone is out for themselves. |

The safest LS\NS space to explore in\get a feel of non HS systems is providence. They operate a NRDS policy. You still need to be watchful as pirates do come in. Just add all the resident corps to contacts with good standings and you will quickly see how safe the system is.

I'd suggest training a cov ops ship of some kind (bombers or cov ops friggies) if you just want to explore. failing that if you put a cloak and essentially anything with a microwarp drive and do the cloak \mwd trick your chance of survival just went up to like 99%. have fun. |

I am probably one of the ones that you are seriously disgusted with....but that is ok.
Along with the advice about training into a covop for your exploration endeavors, I would also suggest that if you don't have pvp experience/a decent understanding of basic pvp mechanics, to possibly attend the Basics and Wolfpack courses offered through the PVP University by Agony Unleashed.
Another source of information, particularly concerning wormholes, can be found in the following links;
EVE-Uni Class Library Islands Among the Stars The Complete Unknown
Now, as for why people seem to camp wormhole entry/exits.... for many w-space corporations, that is their first line of defence; whether it is a single cloaked ship 10-90km off, or a full fledged gang and bubbles. There are also corps in HS who are active wormhole divers for the sole purpose of ganking that fat tengu (or anything else) nonchalantly killing off anom's. Learn to interpret the "Show Info" information and colors to have an idea where they lead prior to jumping thru. Basically, if it doesn't say "this wormhole appears to lead to high security space", always expect to be attacked on the other side!!!
Hope this info helps to get you started, and all the best luck to you.....unless of course you jump into my system |

get used to pvp .... it is like drugs ... once u there u cannot turn back ;)
LS/NS is not dangerous that much if u train some habits and tricks.
I personaly feel safer in LS rather then high sec :) no suicide gankers in low .... it is just that all are potential enemies. |

Annnnnyway...
The thing about wormholes is they are just like gates... gates you can jump right back through! How anyone dies coming in from hi-sec into a gatecamp is astounding to me.
A few tips: Use a T2 scanship to learn in, fit it with an expanded probe launcher, covops cloak and 1mn MWD. Jump in, hold cloak, use direcitonal scanner at 360 and largest distance. Look for ships, probes, control towers, mobile warp bubbles. If all looks clear, bookmark the wormhole, move away from it (>2000m) and cloak.
What you do from there is on you. But be warned, coming into my wormhole (and I know others feel this way) is like coming into your house, you will be hunted avidly.
Also, hi-sec entrances that are close to trade hubs are the ones most likely to be camped so maybe begin your search more than 1 jump from Jita?
Also "a-holes", "disgusting", "respectfully".... ehhhh

Get yourself a widow, sit cloaked near a WH entrance/exit and uncloak when one of those dudes decides to set up shop. In order to finish them off quickly, you'll need various skills, no idea what your current skill set is though. There it is. |

If you end up with any of the Slimy worm corps in your char history, you will forever become a target of their wrong doings in highsec, they are also completely untrustworthy in any shape or form

what you do is, go into any trade hub local and ask about it.

Yeah, it's a lot of fun. I actually had someone randomly try to gank me this morning. Turns out I had more armor than they thought. My only regret was not being quick enough to get on the killmail before concord turned them inside out. In my defense, I was a bit concerned I might lose my ship at the time.
Kara Books wrote:they are also completely untrustworthy in any shape or form Bald-faced lie. We're only untrustworthy if we don't like you.
as for the OP:
As wormholes are concerned, you can generally escape a wormhole camp by waiting out your cloak and then jumping back through the wormhole. I rarely spawn more than 5 km away from the hole, meaning an instant jump once I'm out of cloak. When you run into one of these, don't bother trying to explore the other side, there will be other wormholes where you won't be hunted every moment you're inside.
Or if you're like me, you'll get a whole squad of guys engaged in chasing you for a bit, then leave with a wave in w-space local. |

WH's are not that scary.. apart from having to be paranoid. When you jump into a wh, and it is camped, wait out your session timer, you should have this set to show and it will be the little spinning wheel in the top left by the system name, so wait out session timer, jump right on back out, you can jump through a wh from 5km, and 99% of the time you will be put within that range when you jump through. Always remember to BM the hole you came in. |

Exploration is part of the entertainment of EVE, and one good reason to get out into less secure space. Also, like almost any activity in the game, it has the potential to be much more profitable than mining. The best way to get good at it is to get out there and do it, after learning a bit about the mechanics, and what information you can about where you're exploring.
I won't speak for wormholes, as I haven't ventured around them that much, but getting into 0.0 isn't all that difficult. Yes, there are gate camps - I've been on the giving and receiving end of these. They're one of the features in space, to the point where they'll even show up on your in-game map by how they effect regional statistics. Use your map, or an out of game map, to find out which systems are likely to be camped 24/7, and take a different route into 0.0.
Beyond that, when you're in 0.0, there are ways around warp disruption bubbles, hostiles in local (there are very few places where you shouldn't assume everyone is hostile), and even getting camped in. It's not in my interest to just tell you exactly how to do this, but if you look around there are those who will teach you, and good articles out there. A starting point would be learning how your directional scanner works, the mechanics of how warp disruption bubbles work, how to use bookmarks, and what modules will be helpful for escaping a gate camp or hostiles trying to hunt you down.
If you find you really do enjoy exploration, try CCP's tutorial on it. With a properly fit ship, exploration in 0.0 can be fairly profitable, definitely more profitable than mining. Depending on your skills and budget, a cheaply fit t1 frigate or a well fit Covert Ops ship will be your best be for solo exploration.
Finally, finding friends really is the best way to be 'safe' in 0.0. Whenever you undock, you're never entirely safe, but there are many mechanics you can use to be slightly more difficult to kill. |

covops frig, force recon, blockade runner, covops/nullified t3. (cheapest, less skill intensive ship first)
those are all ships which are quite safe to fly with if you don't want to get caught. If you stay cool at a camp its quite easy to get away. If there is a instant lock ship among the campers the chances are around 50/50, all depends on server load basically.
good luck from me too You fail you fail you fail you fail you fail you fail you fail to jump because you are cloaked
