A lot of mining guides I have looked at recommend the Tormentor as a good Amarr Mining frigate, because of its 10% mining bonus. But, when I actually look at its specs it has no mining bonus at all, only:
10% reduction in Small Energy Turret activation cost
5% bonus to Small Energy Turret damage
What happened to the mining bonus?

Lost it in a frigate rebalance that happened some time ago.

And the Venture looks like it is not specific to Amarr. Just an all purpose mining frigate? |

As I understand it, a better all purpose mining frigate. If I'm not mistaken, it's also the premier gas harvesting vessel which means it can make quite a bit of money in the right space with a little bit of luck. |

One of the things that they have been trying to do is make clear lines of ship progression. Before there wasn't any clear line of progression into mining barges. The Venture is the first step in that new line of progression. Racial mining frigates are now gone for good. Though I'm not sure anything is stopping you from slapping mining lasers on to the tormentor for old times sake. |

It has its own ORE frigate skill, and it's a considerably better ship than the old racial mining frigates. |

Be advised they did the exact same thing with the mining-cruisers. These have been redesigned to logistics. |

But yeah... when it comes to mining, look only to ORE.
Change isn't bad, but it isn't always good. Sometimes, the oldest and most simple of things can be the most elegant and effective.

Tormentor is a bit of an odd case. With every other race, when the introduction of the Venture made racial mining frigates obsolete they were retooled into logistic frigates. But with Amarr the mining frigate (Tormentor) was turned into a combat frigate, and one of the existing combat frigates (Inquisitor) was turned into a logistic frigate. No idea why they did that. The Amarr combat frigates also differ from other races equivalents by using the same weapon system. With the other three races, each of the two combat frigates use a differed weapon system associated with the race; Caldari have hybdrids and missiles, Gallente have hybrids and drones and Minmatar projectiles and missiles. Following the pattern you'd expect the Amarr to have one combat frigate with bonuses to lasers and another one with bonuses to drones. Instead, both the Tormentor and the Punisher use lasers (and before being turned into a logistic frigate, the Inquisitor had bonuses to missile damage, which no other non-t2 Amarr ship has ever had). |

Neither the Vexor nor the Arbitrator is a logistics cruiser. Both still have their mining drone bonuses.
Nothing prevents you from putting mining lasers on a Tormentor because of a stubborn nature, but the Venture is much nicer. |

Venture > Old Tormentor.
Venture is also fun for PvP, and now, so is the Tormentor.
